Diller Musicians Enter National Regional Contest

Diller high school soloists who earned superior ratings at the Beatrice District Music Contest will compete in the National Regional Music Contest in Topeka Kansas. Eligible are Ann Mari Jacobs Voie Avis Johnson and Marilyn Miller with baton twirling. Group acts rated superior were qualified but not entered due to cost and transport.

Auto Truck Crash in Dense Fog Near Beatrice

In dense fog last Thursday a Hastings car carrying Fairbury seniors collided with a state road truck west of Beatrice. Orval Richardson suffered back and chest injuries and a broken jaw. Mrs Hastings broke a leg. injuries also to Miss Jensena and Miss Connie Messenger. They were taken to Lutheran hospital. The caravan included 25 cars and 125 youths on a school trip.

Edward Best Dies in California on April 22

Mrs Edw Best received a letter stating Mr Edward Best of Berkley California died at his home April 22 He was a retired railroad man and had been in poor health for years He was buried at his old home in Atchison Kansas Mrs Best accompanied the body east and is visiting in Kansas.

Miss Dora Willems, a 1916 graduate, and Mrs. Scott Miller will attend the Diller High School ceremony where her son Richard Miller is set to receive his diploma with the Class of 1941 at the opera house next Thursday evening.

Wellington Dean Wins Gold Track Shoe Pin

Beatrice hosts eastern Nebraska Track Meet where Wellington Dean a Diller high school senior earns a gold track-shoe pin for most outstanding athlete in class B district. He scored the season’s top points, tied among Fairbury pair for first in class A, and also excels in music with a superior vocal solo and tuba performances. Dean is Boys' Home elder, first high school graduate, and class president.

Nebraska Children's Home Society seeks donations locally

Mr G M Porter of Lincoln, field representative of the Nebraska Children's Home Society, will visit soon to solicit donations. The private state licensed agency cares for and places children of all ages in Nebraska, funded mostly by voluntary gifts, with local board members Dr S B Viers and Mrs Mollie Riddle. Since 1893 the Jefferson county chapter has helped 114 children with services and placements.

Notice to Bidders for Water Commissioner Duties

Sealed bids will be received by the Village Board of Diller for the complete duties of water commissioner and Village Marshal combined. Bids must be filed with the Village Clerk by 6 PM May 20 1941. The Board reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

City drills new water well on Miller lot

The town board hires Wm. Weiden of Lanham to drill a fresh water well on the Miller lot on North Main Street after a pump failure at the park pumping station. Work began Monday to fix the water supply deficiency.

Dale Garrels of Diller Nebraska, a University of Nebraska athlete, placed first in the two mile event at Minneapolis last Saturday. He competed against runners from Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Fairbury Diller Top Team in Southeastern Neb Track Meet

Fairbury Diller led Class A with 50 points, Beatrice second with 364, in Beatrice last Friday's Southeastern Nebraska meet. Diller also won Class B with 41 points as Wilber failed to beat them. Dean and Miller led Diller scorers as multiple events determined the final points and placings.

Will Dedicate New Electric Organ Sunday

In accordance with the late Mrs. R. A. Duis the Duis children install a $1500 two keyboard console Hammond organ at St John s Lutheran church Lanham. A dedicatory service will be held next Sunday Mothers Day May 11 with a Hammond Company representative in concert. Miss Frieda Korff is the local organist. Public invitation extended.
