The first baseball game on the Diller grounds last Sunday afternoon ended in a 12 to 9 victory for the locals over Odell. Manager Bud Lott predicts a strong team built from local material and expects good season results as Midway visits next Sunday for a practice game before the regular schedule starts.
Mr and Mrs John Gretzinger and their son Clyde with Clyde s wife spent four days in Nebraska this week. They visited Adam Gretzinger and family at Steele City Reuben Gretzinger and his wife near Diller Esther Nider and husband at Jansen and Clinton Tristman and sons at Lincoln. They called the Record office en route and appeared well as usual.
Miss Alice Line from Chicago visited her mother’s home for a week last Friday. Mr and Mrs Clarence Steffen picked her up on Lincoln way. She was accompanied by four year old niece Mary Ann Frownfelter who enjoys time with her grandmother Line and Uncle and Aunt Steffen. Chicago schools are on spring vacation this week.
LaForrest Raymond visited Lincoln from Friday to Monday with his mother and sisters. He has worked for Miles Medical Company of Elkort, Indiana for many years and resides in Denver.
Will Ahrends sustained a severe thumb injury when mud clogged a cutting disc he operated. He used a screwdriver to clear the obstruction and the tool slipped, inflicting a split through the nail to the bone at the end of his thumb.
Everett Green and Volney Ray Mond with his wife visited the former and H. E. Green at the Mennonite hospital in Beat Rice last Friday. The Lincoln party visited Diller during the afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Earl Snyder arrived from Alliance Nebraska on Sunday to visit their parents Mr and Mrs W A Snyder. Mr Snyder was not feeling well last week.
Mc and Mrs Ben Hall of Fairfield visited friends here over the weekend. It is reported that Mr Hall resigned his position as manager of the Farmers Elevator Company at Fairfield.
Mr and Mrs E F Habicht of Worthington Minnesota arrived Tuesday evening in response to the announcement of their aunt Miss Carrie ion's passing.
A local report notes Glenn Blauser suffered a setback Monday losing about $100 due to pasture poisoning. He has endured several recent losses of livestock, highlighting ongoing challenges on his farm.
Today marks Educational Day in Diller as multiple rural schools gather for a friendly event. Attendees enjoy activities and share in a day of learning and community spirit.

County Superintendent Russell McCreight also visited Diller and rural schools in the area, reporting favorable notes on districts 96 66 60 56 and 12 with teachers Gladys Lottman Sylvia Sible Ruth Hans mire Keith Hudson Pearl Sparks.
Scott Miller Jr. son of Mr and Mrs Scott Miller of Diller earned a scholarship rating in physical science and was admitted to the honorary fraternity Epsilon Rho Epsilon on the Doane College campus. The dinner meeting featured a lecture by Dean H K Schilling of Union College Lincoln on The Properties of Sound Waves.
Erma Rempel and Esther Roelfs of district 74 Oaks school competed in the inter state spelling contest at Sioux City Iowa and in the Omaha World Herald contest at Omaha. About 160 contestants at Sioux City and 70 at Omaha. Erma Rempel placed seventeenth at Omaha and received an award.
Mr and Mrs Willis Clark and daughter Carolyn hosted a six o'clock dinner at their farm home on Wednesday evening with guests Miss Fannie Diller Mr Jennie Line Miss Alice Line Mary Ann Frownfelter from Chicago Mr and Mrs Clarence Steffen and son Richard Mrs Sarah Witty Mr and Mrs R W Geeen and Jean Bond attend.

Reuben Fanders recalls attending the Golden Spike celebration in Omaha with a preview of Union Pacific. He describes 1869 costumes, parades, large street replicas of the spike, and crowds of about 250 000, noting stars like Cecil B. DeMille and Barbara Stanwyck among the Hollywood celebs.
The final eighth grade examinations for this year will be held on Tuesday May 2 across the county. Both seventh and eighth grade students may participate in the exams.

Elizabeth Malchow 79, of Ellis, died Sunday after prolonged illness. Survived by husband predeceased by six sons and two daughters including Chas Fred Ed Wm Daniel Chris Mrs Garten and Mrs Krause. Services held Tuesday at Ellis home and Zion Lutheran Church with burial in church cemetery.
H E Green is recovering at the Mennonite hospital in Beatrice. Harry lies in bed with a two pound weight attached to his neck via a rope and pulley to relieve spinal pressure. Rib fractures and bruises give little trouble and Harry is described as quite docile.
The 1989 senior class presents The High School Mystery on Wednesday May 10 in the school auditorium. Cast includes Miss Fielding Lorene Achtemeier Laura Crowder Betty Cuthbert Dorothy Russell and others with Supt Sinkey overseeing stage effects and the drama set amid a modern high school dress rehearsal.
Frank A Sorick died at Odell last Friday at sixty five after an operation. He lived in Odell about 15 years and ran a cream station. Surviving are his wife and three children. His son Gayle bought the Odell Oracle after Editor Miller’s death. Funeral services were held in Odell Sunday afternoon. Chas Waggoner performed the rites at the grave. The body was moved to Jewell City Kansas for burial by Waggoner Bros funeral service.
Roy Geer battled influenza but is recovering well as week ends. Officials note improvement and return to normal activities anticipated shortly.
