This Is Circus Day But There’s No Circus

The record notes Clark's Circus did not appear as scheduled. Reports from Washington Kansas say the circus, billed for yesterday, fell into receivership at Junction City. Tecumseh residents Mr and Mrs W A Schindler and two sons visited St Viers with Miss Rachel Viers.

Diller Friends Invited to Northwestern Seminary Commencement

Invitations have gone to Friends at Diller to attend the Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary commencement in Minneapolis Minnesota. The ceremony is set for Thursday evening April 7 with Rev Lorin Wolff to receive the degree of S T M Master of Sacred Theology.

Dillers Picnic Set For August 10 and 11 1939

Diller's next annual picnic will be held Thursday and Friday August 10 and 11 1939. The first Diller picnic was held August 12 thirty years ago and the rule since then has been to stage the event on the Thursday nearest to August 12.

Mr and Mrs Ray Colman visit the R W Green home and plan to move their household goods from Lincoln to Hastings this week to establish their future residence Ray Colman works as a Burlington ticket agent in Hastings with prior employment there.

Drakes from Ohio Take Parsonage and Farm Near Castor Street

Robert Drake and family arrived from Ohio and occupy the old Congregational church parsonage on Castor Street. He is the brother of Mrs. Viers and will oversee farming interests, including melons, on the land west of town.

Mrs. W. Filley departed Sunday evening on the Burlington passenger train bound for Stamford Nebraska to spend a week visiting her son Superintendent and Mrs. Hubert Filley.

Mrs. Anderson president of the Diller Band asks all members be present Monday night to discuss the possible purchase of new band uniforms.

Gravel Dump Starts Near Endicott on Blue River

Trucks began rolling last Thursday to haul gravel from the Blue river near Endicott and dump it on the highway south of town. The operation marks a major material delivery and road improvement effort in the area.

Injured Carpenter H. E. Green in Beatrice fall

H. E. Green, a veteran local carpenter, was badly hurt Monday when a plank collapsed while he was shingling the Geer residence. He suffered a fractured tenth rib, a neck injury, bruises, and shock, and was taken to Mennonite hospital Beatrice for treatment. The last report said he was resting comfortably.

Diller High School Shines at Geneva District Contest

Diller High entered five numbers at the Geneva district contest April 21 22 with Freddie Drexler and Catherine Barnett singing solos Friday. Fred die and Catherine Barnett earned good and average ratings respectively as Girls Glee Boys Glee and Mixed Chorus also rated good superior and good amid about three thousand contestants.

Diller High School sent three cars to a Plymouth scholastic contest on Tuesday. Plymouth won with 615.6 points, Daykin came in third with 22.8 points, while Diller placed second with 46.1 points. Educational Day Schedule at Rural Schools

Educational Day will be held next Thursday May 4 with events across the rural schools. Morning assemblies include a rural school program and scholastic contests followed by a picnic dinner and a band concert. Afternoon events feature rural school athletic contests at the Ball Park with potential gym substitutions for bad weather and an art exhibit from Diller schools in the ute room.

Ludington high school athletes impressed coach Carl Ludington with a string of strong results at an Alexandria track meet. Diller led with two New records in the 440 yard relay and mile relay while taking multiple places. Doyle Weaver anchored the medley relay, nearly catching Edgar’s Gun.

Mrs Kate Maw Mathews Dies. Longtime Diller Resident

Mrs Kate Maw Mathews died April 23 1939 aged 74 living most of her life in Blue Springs and Diller Nebraska and briefly near McDonald Kansas She was born November 21 1864 near Davenport Iowa married Stephen D Maw March 22 1883 and had eight children Ralph Hazel Floyd Nellie Fay seven living in Diller twenty five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.Services were held at the Green home then Congregational church conducted by Rev H H Pyche Burial at Liberty Cemetery beside her husband. Card of Thanks expresses gratitude for floral offerings and ministry.
