Short notices show sales of steel barrels and a bay mare with a milch cow for sale. Local residents visit relatives, including Carl Franz and Erma, Anna Zook Showers, J. H. Pittenger, and Dick Lambert. A community play by Diller high school draws about 73 dollars in receipts.
Marten Fanders paid 22140 for A L Tinstman's 164 acre farm one mile north of Diller averaging 135 per acre. He may sell his own farm west of town to move to the Tinstman property as Tinstman plans a trip west.
The boys are coming home. Army divisions 88 and 89 were released April 25 and 26 to prepare for their return to the United States. An early convoy assignment is possible within days. Diller residents Jorden Sandmann Ted Reinhardt and Scott Miller serve in these divisions with the 89th from Camp Funston and the 88th from Camp Dodge. Everett Blauser belongs to the 120th field artillery which is due to land in New York May 6.
The roads are frightfully muddy due to numerous showers. W. H. Schmelle moved his family to Helvey last week where he has entered the banking business. Mr. and Mrs. A. H Colman and Miss Osborn returned Tuesday from a brief visit in Omaha.
A birth notice reports the birth of a nine pound son to Mr and Mrs Sam Seifford, two miles south and one east of Diller, on Wednesday April 30 1919.
Mr and Mrs R L Oaks returned last Friday from Beatrice where they visited several days with their daughter Mrs Harry King and family.
Mrs. Gertarde Bradley visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. H. Z. Diller in Fairbury spent a few days with relatives after arriving last evening.
Pure bred single combed White Leghorn eggs for hatching from Mrs. Theo. Henrichs priced at 75 cents per setting. Local advertisement offering fertilized eggs for poultry breeders.
Miss Hazel Fisher expresses thanks through the Record to Mrs Mayborn her Sunday school class and her girl friends for the flowers sent during her hospital stay. The message notes hail insurance and adds two strong hail insurance companies to the office offerings. It asserts that only a hail storm could stop a crop this year and invites readers to discuss insurance.
J W Fouts announces the distribution of 25 steel Band Boxes to aid fire and cyclone insurance efforts. He declines hail insurance boxes due to low commission and rising box costs, noting some jobs cost more than their commission.
Advertises furniture in all kinds at Free man’s in Fairbury Nebraska. Mentions new Nebraska laws printed in brief inside pages. Reports visits by Mrs Eva Green Mrs Dr Diehl and others from Lincoln and Burlington. Notes Dr A Lynch office at Fairbury Hospital and a cattle shipment by Chas Barber to St Joe.
Miss Kittie Tatman and William F. Glenn wed last Friday at the M E church in Lincoln with close family present. Cal Waggoner returned from Omaha after leading the Minks shooting tournament with the high average among amateurs, breaking 489 of 500 targets and winning the $100 trophy.
Mrs C P Bradley of Oklahoma City entertains at a 12 o'clock Sunday dinner hosted by her parents Mr and Mrs H Z Diler. Guests include Miss Belva Kinneman of Fairbury Grace Myers Gretchen Wohlfarth Flossie and Fern Raymond with Miss Belva Kinneman as guest of honor.
Beatrice officials file articles of incorporation for The Beatrice Power Company capitalized at 300000 to manufacture electric current and build a hydro electric plant near Barneston. Incorporators include J H Stienmeyer G W Steinmeyer C B Dempster and others all of Beatrice.
Advertisements claim alfalfa based goods like flour and breakfast foods are lucrative. Experts warn these items are tied to stock-jobbing schemes risking investor losses while the USDA endorses alfalfa only as a forage, not a health or food product.
The Woman's Club will meet Tuesday evening May 6 at 8 30 at city hall. Miss Ruth Miller directs a program on birds with talks on protection song and general notes. Recitals include The Wedding and Death of Cock Robin and The Burial of Cock Robin. Bird songs by several members. Prize awards for bird houses. Open to all.
The district resumes four o clock dismissal instead of five due to an all time loss from the flu. Seniors receive a Friday May 16 ceremony. New pupils include Hugh and Nina Pearce in Miss Raymond's room. Orlynn Schmuelle moved away.
Miss Elizabeth Sandman of Fairbury visited Harbine friends and relatives last week. Several residents spent a weekend in Diller Beatrice and Hastings with family and onlookers noted ongoing rain with questions of when it would stop.
Weather disrupted attendance but a good crowd joined last Sunday. Regular services are planned next Sunday with church school at 10 30 and preaching at 8 30 pm. Members urged to support the Centenary program and meet spiritual needs.
