Three Diller people died in a 24 hour span early this week. Mrs. George Spechtz died of a heart attack at six AM Monday, Gilbert Blauser followed at noon the same day, and Mrs. Susie Brandt passed away early Tuesday after a period of illness.
Nora Inez Carmichael Specht of Brownville born July 22 1884 died March 24 1941 at her home in Diller aged 56 years 6 months 2 days. She married George C Specht in 1902 at Fairbury and had five children two sons and three daughters with several surviving relatives listed. Funeral services were held at the Specht home and Methodist church with Rev W H Clark, burial in Prairie Home cemetery beside her husband.
G C Blauser born Linn Adams County Indiana January 17 1868 died at his son Clifford s home March 24 1941 aged 73 years 2 months 7 days He moved to Nebraska at age five near Bear Creek Beatrice later near Diller He married Lucy F Wharton February 25 1892 and they had four children Irene F Shimmin Lawrence A Blauser Gertrude V Carmichael and G Clifford Blauser He leaves eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren He joined the Methodist church and served on the board of trustees and belonged to the Masonic lodge He also leaves one brother.
Mrs John of Diller and four sisters Orleva I McLaughlin of Fairbury Jenny Hudson Diller Virgiline Price and LaClerisa Pittenger of Lincoln Nebraska attended services at Wag guner's funeral home at 1 30 pm Thursday then at 2 pm at the Methodist church Rev W H Clark officiated The Masonic Fraternity conducted the graveside services in Prairie Home Cemetery.
Mrs. Susie Brandt widow of Henry Brandt died at her daughter Mrs. Charley Hilder’s home eight miles south of Beatrice after a long illness. Funeral services set for Saturday at 1 30 at Waggoner’s Funeral Home and 2 o’clock at the Methodist church.
The spring election falls on April 1 with no fooling. Sample ballots are published elsewhere. There are no prank specifications, so voters must look out for themselves.
Bert Ewers of Fairbury stayed overnight with his sister Mrs L P Raymond to attend the funeral of G C Blauser today.
Floyd Hughes traveled to Lincoln last Saturday to consult a renowned New York specialist in artificial eyes. Gilbert Plager also went to Lincoln seeking new eyeglasses.
Willard Beckman leaves Diller Friday for Des Moines Iowa to join a large bank as a new executive. He has served as bookkeeper at the Diller States Bank for nearly three years.
Max Thompson resumes work in Fairbury on an NYA project after completing a 30 day lay-off. He had served eighteen consecutive months on the job prior to the lay-off.
A son named Larry Lee was born to Mr and Mrs Frank Meyer on March 12 at Lutheran Hospital Beatrice. Agnes Saat hoff is listed among the parents.
Cal Waggoner shows a new four passenger Chevrolet coupe from 1941 in gray paint. This model marks his latest automobile choice and reflects a change from prior colors.
The Keystone Kensington will meet on Thursday April 3 at the home of Mrs Joho Sailing to discuss upcoming activities and group matters.
The book review has been postponed and will be presented on Monday March 31. Readers are advised to note the new date for the literary feature and any accompanying notes or schedules.
Diller High School drama students directed by George Armstrong and Bernard Goerke earned a superior rating at the Clay Center final contest. The troupe placed among the state’s top six in class B and received special honors for best actress Ann Mari Jacobs.
Serenus Viers and two classmates who completed airplane engine mechanics training at Lincoln left Tuesday for Buffalo New York to take jobs in an airplane factory. Harold Lottman and Frank Shoebottom also trained in sheet metal work and headed to Buffalo for similar work. Mrs Shoebottom, formerly Harriet Diller of Fairbury, will stay in Lincoln until school ends.
Mr. W. W. Stephens returned this week to his son Lorren Stephens and family 24 miles south and east of Diller after spending the winter with his daughters at Exeter Nebr.
Section crews resumed duties Monday as Wilbur Green Harvey Zeager Clarence Tiny Robinson join the Burlington Route crew led by boss Will Fox and foreman Harry Close. LaForrest Fasnacht left Monday with his wife for Wayne Kansas to resume work, last year’s location. Toney Zellenys went to Beatrice to work on the section before training camp.
Mr and Mrs Roy Geer rejoiced after receiving a letter from their daughter Hazel Carpenter who lives near Warroad Minnesota. She was in the storm path when the blizzard killed many on Saturday evening March 15. The Carpenters did not travel to town that day and were at home listening to President Roosevelt on the radio five miles from town.
A village election will be held at the city hall in Diller on Tuesday April 1 1941 for electing three trustees for a two year term on the Village Board of Trustees, two members to the Board of Education School District 70 for three years, and one member for two years. Polls open 9 A.M. and close 7 P.M.
In Scribner Schribner Russler issue dated March 20 reports Friday evening reception for new Congregational minister Rev Elmer Erickson and wife and family. Two newcomers Rev H H Pyche and spouse from Diller joined the gathering and received hearty greetings from the assembled attendees.
A $5.00 per acre annual payment is offered for clean tillage of bindweed. Operators must get spring county committee approval and log cultivations during summer. They should cultivate as many bindweed areas as feasible and continue until eradication, with twenty to twenty five cultivations over two growing seasons.
Payment will be made for standard terracing at 75c per 100 linear feet, for earth dams at 15c per cubic yard and for concrete or masonry dams at $6.00 per cubic yard. In the construction of these dams and terraces, certain specifications must be met. The county committee will help in staking out dam sites and explain how dams and terraces are to be constructed to draw payments.
Argentine wheat trades at about 5K at the seaport, suggesting Gulf coast prices reflect absence of wheat loans. Shipping to the east coast costs roughly 26 cents per bushel. The excerpt urges damming to protect land from drought across regions and valleys.
Weekend visitors were Mr and Mrs R F Starr of Cedar Falls Iowa. They stayed with their daughter Mrs Elizabeth Hughes and family. Mrs Starr arrived last Wednesday. Fred Starr attended a Prudential Insurance meeting in Omaha and joined in Diller Saturday evening. The Starrs departed Monday for home.
