The area sees busy plowing and harvest prep amid rain Wednesday morning benefiting winter wheat. Billy Mille returns to a 650 acre wheat field in western Kansas. A photograph gallery opens Wednesdays and local notices mention trains and family visits.
Notice to taxpayers warns delinquency date May 1, 1909 for the 1908 real estate tax and urges prompt payment. The message ends with sign offs from County Treasurer John SpyPson and mentions Mrs E Loock and daughter Gertrude returning home from Lincoln via Rock Island and Burlington routes after stenography studies at Lincoln Business College and Slippery Rock, Pa.
Miss Sarah Colman visits home near Diller as Miss Clara Stark returns from Reynolds after canvassing for Fairbury Journal contest. J O Blancer offers Blue Bell cream separator while J W Fors advertises a rick of prairie hay two miles from Diller. Mise Della Fanders returns home for ten day vacation from York business college. Mrs J E Kerr recovering from measles and daughter Viola shows symptoms. Harry Bogge visits Colman House on business from Beat Rice.
Mp and Mrs August Baumfolk of two miles north of Harbine report the death of their two year old daughter from measles with a subsequent abscess in the brain. The child was buried Tuesday at Cortland, where the family formerly lived.
Notice to all alike that hunting and shooting on the 8. E. fraction of section 35 township 2 range 4 are forbidden with trespassers to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. C. E. Carr and Mr Mrs Barl Keeler of Beat Tree visited Shickley Nebraska and Mr Keeler shot ducks while visiting H. E. Grape. Over fifty invitations prepared for a complimentary banquet at the Colman House this Friday evening. The Record cannot disclose meal details now but plans to report next week. Respondents who see the phrase plates free on the invitation risk missing a fine affair.
J P Root of Batavia Illinois sold a 254 acre farm four miles southwest of Diller to Will and Sam Woods for 75 dollars per acre totaling 14100.25 dollars. The First National Bank handled the transfer. Root previously bought the land from a railroad company thirty years ago and kept rental income up to 1600 dollars yearly. He retains Nebraska and Kansas properties and plans several visits to the area.
Eggs wanted at the Racket. A L Tristman visited Steele City on telephone business Tuesday. Brown finished a breeding barn and starts business. A Beaver City girl is saving soap wrappers to buy a baby sister. A Mayborn plans a new residence in Caldwell addition at Diller near his son C J Mayborn’s home.
A light rain fell Wednesday morning as County Commissioner Chas. Robr baugh was in town on county business Friday. Miss Elsie Steffen, a Doane college student, returned home for a short vacation. A sister of Mrs. Clark Blauser from Kansas visited starting Tuesday and planned to visit her parents near Steele City. Bees Laxative Cough Syrup advertised by Neely's Pharmacy.
The Ladies of the Presbyterian church will hold a chicken pie supper in the Colman hotel dining room next Saturday starting at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited. Supper price is 25 cents.
Three new pupils join first grade on Monday while Gertrude Blauser enters fifth grade and Irene Lawrence Blauser Orville Cherry join eighth grade this week. The Southeast Nebraska Teachers Association meets March 31 in Beatrice. Measles cause twenty Miss Lamb pupils to miss school.
A promotional item claims Dr King’s New Life Pills prevent appendicitis by stimulating the stomach liver and bowels. It lists cures for constipation biliousness chills malaria headache and indigestion and advertises 250 at Spear Drug Co.
Mr. and Mrs. John Cato and baby of Meridian Idaho visit in Uiller this week with her aunt Mrs J W Fouts and family and her grandfather Henry Madden. Mrs Cato is daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Madden former residents of this neighborhood.
Having sold our stock of general merchandise to the Diller Mercantile Co. of Diller Nebr we desire to collect all outstanding accounts as soon as possible and ask everyone indebted to call at our old place of business to settle at earliest convenience.
