County treasurer notes prompt tax payments this year

County treasurer Aug Kroll reports faster personal tax payments than in recent years and says distress warrants were needed for only 2200 dollars of taxes.

Mr and Mrs Herb Beckwith were transacting business in Beatrice Wednesday. Some farmers are plowing well. Lloyd Hughes of Hastings visited his mother Mrs SM Hughes this week. Roy Greider and family enjoy a new Tudor Ford sedan. Mr and Mrs C L Tristman and Dale and Allen visited Humboldt Sunday. A 7½ pound girl was born to Keith Hays and La Fern Leppidevin on the 7th. Rev and Mrs W E Ludwick motored to Lincoln last Friday to meet their fifth grandson born that morning to Paul Ludwick and wife, returning Sunday.

Cully Store Robbery Figures Enter Guilty Plea and Not Guilty

Everett Legget pleaded guilty to breaking and entering in the Cully store robbery at Diller on January 24. Guy D. Austin pleaded not guilty to the same charge. The judge deferred sentence to the regular session March 17.

County mulls long term road and bridge expenditure report

County commissioners draft a 15 to 20 year statement of road and bridge costs with invoices for road machinery. Chris Milius chairs the county road committee for future meetings. School and village primaries met Tuesday night in city hall with good attendance. School trustees nominees are S. B. Viers J Smith Diller John Carrico and Cloyd Cully for three year terms. Village trustees nominees Rupert Andrews H. M. Holle and S. C. Moser for two year terms.

N R C Franks Eick Host Sociable Evening

N R C members held a Friday night gathering hosted by Mr and Mrs Frank Eick with six tables of cards and a luncheon. Prizes went to Frank Grone and Mrs Arthur Grone. Rev Wm Velte and party traveled to Kansas City for a church invitation while others planned return to Diller.

Cattle Shipment to Chicago by Local Men on Rock Island Train

Leonard Richardson Robert Wells and Harry Ahrends shipped cattle to Chicago on a special Rock Island train Saturday. Richardson and Richardson loaded at Ellis and Ahrends at Harbine. Mr and Mrs A E Southwick return soon to Harbine after Hot Springs Ark visit en route to Oklahoma and Kansas.

Scalded Hand Sufferer Nearby Diller Area

Mrs. Aug Luebkin residing a few miles east of Diller injures her right hand in a scalding incident. A March 12 record heat of 80 degrees in the shade was reported nearby on Wednesday.

Frank Lightbody a Democratic sheriff candidate met Diller residents on Wednesday and placed his campaign announcement in the local columns while visiting the city.

Yesterday prices paid for grain and produce included wheat 0.80, corn 0.60, oats 0.38 dollars, cream 0.33, eggs 0.20, heavy hens 0.20, roosters 0.10. The list records market rates for wheat, corn, oats, dairy and poultry products.

Bank President Arrested for Embezzlement at Odell

C N Hines, president and cashier of the defunct Hinds State Bank in Odell, was arrested Tuesday on charges of embezzlement and illegal bank operation. He allegedly misrepresented the bank’s condition to the state banking board, was taken to Beatrice, and released on $3,500 bond with a hearing set for March 29.
