Francis Clark traveled from Omaha to Diller and reopened his store after four weeks closed during a hospital stay in Topeka. He appears well and has lost weight. Carl Lam leads daily operations as new stock arrives and more merchandise is promised.
Arthur E Price Ward died in Denver after a long illness. Funeral services were held in Kansas City. He had been raised in Diller and worked at Citizens State Bank before moving to Kansas City to work with his father P W Price and later his uncle Thomas P Price. His wife survives him.
Mrs Louise Ramsey 81 widow of Joseph Ramsey died at her daughter Mrs Mollie Culver’s Beatrice home Wednesday morning at 7 30 Funeral services and burial planned in Beatrice but dates not yet set She was sister of the late George Riddle of this place.
Mrs. Sarah Hughes died at her home in Diller Monday evening about five o'clock after several months of illness. Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Congregational church. The obituary will be published in the Record’s next issue.
Mrs Myrtle Frisbie Ward visits relatives after the death of Mrs Will Frisbie at her home in Ozema Wisconsin Burial held in Ozema The Frisbies formerly lived in Diller and moved from Fairbury to Wisconsin about two years ago
Mrs. Griswold traveled to Steele City and then Marysville to attend the funeral of her step son John Griswold who died at 57. He lived on a farm near Marysville.
Mrs. W Slocum long ill at daughter Mrs Frank Robertson home northeast of Diller. Daughter Mrs Ener son helping this week with her care.
Harry Allen remains out while near recovery from illness. He has not resumed his store trick yet but is expected to be in full swing again soon.
On Tuesday the Chick Boyes Players announced no more shows at Diller this season. A new circuit has been formed and Diller is not included in it.
Miss Rachael Viers and Miss Lois Pearson teachers at Tecumseh school spent the weekend with Miss Viers parents Dr and Mrs Viers.
The Booklover's club will meet at Mrs. Carl Ludington's home on Friday March 11 at 1 30 PM instead of 2 30 PM. Please note the hour change.
E. E. McCune has been suffering from an attack of rheumatism and is moving about with considerable difficulty.
Art Kunecke a Western Grocer Company truck fleet operator from Carroll Iowa lies critically hurt at Des Moines Methodist hospital after a highway incident near Jefferson Iowa last week. A truck jack failed crushing him injuring his back and ribs while he attempted to mount a wheel. his brother Will and wife were with him and his condition is described as dangerous with a blood clot risk.
Wilbur Green and his boss Harry Close attended Burlington's Wymore division safety meeting on No. 16. In 1937 the division won the system wide safety trophy for only one reportable injury. Two injuries have already been reported in 1938.
Rev and Mrs Pyche hosted Sunday guests for Mrs Pyche’s birthday. Attending were Mrs Arthur B Lessy and Mary Jean of West Point Nebraska, Miss Ruth Pyche, Mrs Paul D Pyche, and Bobby of Lincoln. Guests returned Sunday evening. The Rev accompanied them to West Point to see a dear ill friend.
Henry Edward and Johnny Behrends returned to visit their parents Mr. and Mrs. Wm Behrends and family in town after working in Iowa. They brought a radio intended as a Christmas gift but a little late. Edward and Johnny plan to return to Baxter next Sunday.
Mr and Mrs E E McCune hosted guests last Sunday with daytime callers including Mr and Mrs Orville McCune and Marilyn Odell Mr and Mrs Roy McCune Roe Richard and Alfred Lincoln. In the afternoon visitors included Mrs Hurst Mrs Tippin Fairbury and Ethel James Lincoln.
Marie Meyer living near Charley Waggover's home was declared insane by the county insanity commission at Fairbury last Saturday. Sheriff Ackman escorted her to Inglesides as concerns about her safety and well being prompted the action.
Mr and Mrs Chas Gaisford traveled from Moran Kansas to visit over Sunday at Dr Ammermans in Reynolds and the Carmichaels at Diller. They left Monday for Jamesport Missouri where Charles will lay bricks.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nippert and the latter's parents Mr. and Mrs. N. B Tyler and Marjorie drove to Davenport Nebraska early Saturday to spend the day with other Nipperts and returned home that evening.
Caucuses for school district No 70 and Village of Diller were held Wednesday evening. Nominations for board of education seats and village council were made by officials and committees. Twenty seven men attended, no ladies, with plans for an August picnic.
Mrs Christie Seaman marked her 80th birthday amid a family dinner on February 28 as leap year weekend guests gathered. Four children and numerous relatives joined in along with friends and her grandson Roe Sparks, a U S Navy member, to share greetings and gifts.
Miss Betty Grabber celebrated a pre birthday dinner last Sunday with a large gathering of relatives. Attending were Frank Amos and wife, Will Egger and wife, Will Amos and wife, Lester Reid and wife, and Howard Peters and wife, all described as close uncles and aunts. Betty’s age remains a deep secret.

Henry Wiemers of a stock farm near Diller reports selling 106 head of registered pure bred Polled Hereford cattle Suffolk sheep and Hereford hogs in four months. Stock has reached Illinois Colorado Missouri Iowa Kansas Minnesota Kentucky Arkansas Pennsylvania Michigan South Dakota and many Nebraska locations with buyers from Iowa Michigan and New York among others. All stock is guaranteed and shipped COD on approval with extensive printing and involvement in the National Hereford Hog Association.
The Dorcas Society delayed its February gathering due to bad weather. Members sang America and prayed, observed Valentine's Day and Washington's birthday with poems and a flag salute, planned buying two dozen chairs for the church basement, and served a luncheon of ice cream cake and wafers.
Mr and Mrs Carl Lampe and their children moved their personal effects to Diiler from Seele City. Mr Lampe will manage the Clark Store which opened Monday.
The Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938 will not alter Jefferson county Farm Program administration. County Committee members Merle Roney Howard C Hardy and Paul Regnier will continue directing the program alongside county association directors Fred Bockholdt Henry Freese Claude Nider J Smith Diller R T Garrett James Schwartz Henry Jarchow Alvin Snyder Willard Gumner L B Dragoo Emil Schoen Gus Olson and John Jarchow. Farmers will be invited to late March community meetings to discuss the 1938 plan. no contracts or compulsory features.
Cecil B. DeMille presents The Buccaneer showing at Bonham Theatre next Sunday and Monday March 6 and 7. The film recounts Jean Lafitte's life and his 1812 1815 actions aiding Andrew Jackson at New Orleans to save the young republic.
Diller Woman's Club meeting postponed to March 9 at 8:00 PM. Hostesses include Miss Marian Diller and Mrs. R. Mayborn. Leaders are Mr. Sinkey and Mrs. Ludington. Roll call on time saving devices. Topic explores the home and its influence on the community with a playlet.
4 H Club The Harbine Stockmen 4H Baby Beef Club held their regular meeting Monday night February 21, 1938. Project literature was distributed and discussed. Topics were assigned for individual demonstrations for next meeting March 21. Visitors are welcome. Edmund Wrigley News Reporter.
