Summer began last Saturday with community updates. The M. W. A. meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday each month. Local notices include births at Fairbury, monument ads by F. A. Moon & Son, and residents visiting relatives in Wymore and Beatrice.
S. B. Viers Sr. visited at the home of his son Dr. S. B. Viers the veterinarian then returned home to Lebanon Kansas stopping at Superior en route. W J Glasco of Twin Falls Idaho brother in law of Mr and Mrs E E McCune visited here last Friday and Saturday en route to Omaha to meet a son who had recently graduated from the government military school at West Point.
Bids for exclusive right to a platform dance on grounds at Diller Picnic August 13 and 14 1924 will be received by the Secretary with 25 percent of the bid to accompany the same. Bids close 8 p m June 27 1924. W E Anderson See s Diller Picnic Committee.
St. Johns Lutheran Church Lanham invites all to an annual summer school picnic Sunday afternoon June 29 in Herman Rippe’s grove near the Lanham depot. A program of music entertainment booths and sociability awaits attendees. You are welcome.
It rains most every night now. Born to Mr and Mrs LaVern Pickard a girl at Fairbury on June 20. Mr and Mrs Al Clausson of Beatrice and Miss Donna Hiatt visited with Mr and Mrs Frank Cully. Jas A Pickard and family visited in Fairbury meeting their grandson at the Vern Pickard home.
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Anderson, their daughter Juanita, and Mrs. Colman left Sunday in their car to spend his vacation with relatives in southern Kansas.
Miss Rachael Viers toured with her aunt Mrs Gladys Durkee visiting at her brother Dr S B Viers home. They left for Topeka Kansas on Sunday for a two week stay before returning home.
Sealed bids due by 12 oclock noon July 1 1924 for painting and papering the Dist No 57 school house four miles south of Diller and painting all out buildings. Bids left with L S Marsteller.

H. S. Tonnemaker through his lawyer yesterday filed an answer to the divorce petition by his wife Sarah Ann Tonnemaker. The answer charges cruelty and asserts the plaintiff as a chiropractor earns more than the defendant. Both have been married before.
Local copy from the Wessington Springs Republican describes the June 14 tornado wrecking homes and businesses in the area with illustrations of several structures. The paper remains optimistic that South Dakota will recover and smile again.
J L Lamb has recovered to tend his cream station. A son weighing ten pounds was born to Mr and Mrs A B Holtmeir eight miles north and fourteen east of Diller on June 23. Mrs H M Hollie had appendicitis surgery at Marysville Kansas and is expected home today or tomorrow.
Fred Diekhoff plans a vacation trip and Wednesday bought a patent auto bed exhibited by inventor S. J. Senior, a former Diller resident. Grandpa and Grandma Geo. C. Specht have visited Fairbury to greet and care for their first grandchild, a girl born to their daughter last Friday.
Mrs. Wm Hunnicutt of Powell Wyoming visits her parents Mr and Mrs Charley Fisher and her grandfather George Fisher along with other relatives in the vicinity of Diller Steele City and Endicott.
John Glathar and his daughter Emma returned Monday from a two week stay in Fall City. Mr. Glathar consulted their old family physician for stomach trouble and reports good results from the treatment.
The Jolly Neighbor's Club hosted an ice cream supper for members and families at Will Amos' last Thursday night. Threatening weather forced attendees to leave early before enjoying all the ice cream fresh strawberries and cake.
Waggoner Bros the Diller undertakers were called to Steele City Wednesday to prepare the body of Mrs. Kelley 79 an old resident who died there that morning She was the wife of Thomas Kelley a former section foreman on the St Joe and G I railroad Her funeral will be this afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Asa Richardson their daughter Mildred and Miss Nellie Frisbie started Tuesday on a motor trip to Denver to visit friends then the girls will return home while Mr and Mrs Richardson extend their journey to Spokane and Portland Oregon and other places to visit Mr Richardson’s sisters R L Oaks who had been in ill health was operated on in a Kansas City hospital last week Tuesday to remove a large stone from his bladder the operation was not fully completed and will be finished later his wife accompanied him to Kansas City and is staying with her sister Mrs Thos Price and visits him frequently
An 80 foot steel wagon bridge with reinforced cement abutments and creosoted block floor opened Monday for travel just south of town. It is wide enough for two cars and replaces an old unsafe wooden bridge built on piling years ago though approaches are not yet finished.
A small but real cyclone visited the home of Less Barber on the Monroe farm 14 miles north and 4 miles west of Diller just east of the Oaks school house last Sunday evening. It tore the porch from the house and scattered various articles around the yard showing the rotating motion of the storm. Mr Barber and family took refuge in the air as they noticed the storm approaching.
Several residents from Diller visited Sun day at Camp Jefferson the YMCA meeting place west of Endicott where local boys were camping. Noted attendees include Mr and Mrs John Plager Dean Barber W J Filley and daughter Eleanor E J F and Mrs Habicht Miss Ruth Habicht Mrs Marie Habicht Mr and Mrs Chas Waggoner and Mrs Nancy Robertson.
Lieut Maughan flew a military airplane from Mitchel Field to San Francisco covering 2850 miles in 21 hours 474 minutes 45 seconds with four stops at Dayton Saint Joseph Cheyenne and Salduro. He crossed over Diller Nebraska and completed segments including St Joseph to Endicott in 42 minutes at 180 mph. The journey is described as trail blazing and honors the officer and country.
