Jefferson county wheat producers who have not exceeded their allotment may obtain wheat loans on their 1839 crop at 66 cents for No 1 wheat. Loans differ by grade, with 65c for No 2 and 63c for No 3, 60c and 57c for No 4 and No 5.
Heavy rain Tuesday evening and last Sunday produced about 2.38 inches for the week in the vicinity. Reports on rainfall vary from 2 to 24 inches near town, with Dr Viers measuring 2.22 inches in town. Little wind and hail was reported locally, though hail damage occurred southeast of town.
Rev L J Wolff of St Pauls Lutheran departs for Long Beach California to attend the national Luther League convention and visit the Worlds Fair in San Francisco before returning. His brother Wallace Wolff will fill the pulpit in his absence.
Geo Fisher bought a new electric refrigerator this week choosing cool drinks at home over digging a new well. He already had a well of water but preferred water from the fridge dispenser to faucet water.
First wheat delivered near Hollenberg by L. D. Else to Black Bros. elevator at Diller J last Saturday. Wheat tested 62 pounds and brought 6l1c per bushel, per elevator manager Joan Steiner.
Rev. and Mrs. C. F. Wagner of Eilis visited the former's mother in Paoli Colorado last week. Wagner, pastor of the local Methodist church, will preach at Diller next Sunday morning.
The Plymouth team played short handed and used Diller players. Diller led 17 to 5 at the end. Next Sunday Diller visits Plymouth for another game.

Lou Gehrig, famed New York Yankees slugger, is diagnosed with infantile paralysis and will not play again. The announcement confirms a career ending illness with no return to the baseball field.

Federal Writers Project notes recount the 1899 move of Box Butte County’s courthouse from Hemingford to Alliance. A 34 by 48 foot building, 45 feet high, rode on railroad flats drawn by two locomotives at ten miles per hour. Delays and narrow passages stretched the 20 mile haul to two days, ending with a crack free delivery to Alliance.
Miss Donna Weddle became the bride of Lawrence Mentgen at St. Anthony's Catholic church in Sterling on June 17. The ceremony featured a wedding march by Mrs R A Connley and sung parts by L G Giacomini. Afterward a wedding breakfast was served at Schell chateau and the couple plans a two week visit to Nebraska before settling July 1 in Colonial apartments in Sterling.
Sixteen year old Robert Menke drowned Monday evening while swimming in a pond ten miles south of Ellis. He and Ray Grabher went into the water. Menke dived and did not resurface, believed to have cramps. He lived with his brother on a farm south of Ellis. his parents at Liberty.
