Scott Miller and family attended the state Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Fremont where Fairbury drum and bugle corps won the state title for the second year in a row and earned a $50 prize. Omaha placed second in Junior Corps. Mrs Miller belongs to the VFW Ladies Drill Team, which also won first place for the second consecutive year. National officers urged attendance at the Cleveland convention next September.

Charles Finch Hurt in Horse Incident Near Diller Beatrice
Charles Finch suffered a broken hip after being thrown from a horse while trimming its hoof on the Odell road farm six miles east of Diller. The Waggoner Brothers ambulance transported him Tuesday morning to the Lutheran hospital at Beatrice. the injury will lay him up for some time.

Prather, Howard dies after illness at 53
Howard Prather 53, of a Beatrice area farm, died Tuesday at a Beatrice hospital after a three month illness. The body lies at Waggoner's funeral home and funeral services are set for Friday at 2 PM at the Presbyterian church in Steele City with burial in Beatrice. He is survived by his widow, a daughter Malvery, his mother Mrs. Chas. Prather of Diller, and two brothers in Chicago and De Witt.

Death of B. F. Mathias at Lancaster County Farm
B F Mathias died Tuesday at a Lancaster County farm after a long illness. A long time resident, he had amassed about 400 acres north of town in his younger days. Remains were taken to Diller and funeral services are set for Friday at 10 am at Waggoner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery beside his wife. He was uncle to Roy Mathias of Ellis and Grace Fasnacht of Diller and brother in law to Wm Mudge.

The Woman's Club held its final meeting of the year at Mrs. C. In with assisting hostesses. Seventeen members attended as committees were named for 1938 1939 including Year Book Social Music and Membership.
