Sunday school at 10. English services next Sunday June 7 at 10 30 conducted by Student Pastor Wolf of Lincoln. After services a congregational meeting will be held and an offering taken to defray expenses.
Mrs. L. M. Cavett directs the Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday School at 10 A M with Superintendent S. S. participation and services announced.
The Congregational Church hosted a fine piano duo Miss Mildred Mayborn and Miss Mary Eby of Lincoln last Sunday. Missionary Society elected new officers Mrs Harry Thompson president Mrs George Riddle vice president and Mrs Willis Clark secretary-treasurer. A Missionary Tea is planned in the annex Friday in June with Mrs Scott Miller in charge. A Lincoln guest could not keep June 4 appointment but a later date may be set. Services and a special program are planned for next Sunday evening.
Mr and Mrs L V Raymond and daughter Phyllis Joe of Lincoln spent Sunday at the home of his mother Mrs Isabella Raymond.
McCurdy's Fruit Farm in Steele City Nebraska advertises pick your own strawberries at 1.50 dollars per crate with crates extra. A bulk price of 225 dollars per crate is offered for picked fruit. Pick anytime after this week. Phone 1620.
An avcall issued for the final Nebraska enrollment in the federal conservation corps lists Merle Johnson and gy Fan ders from Diller to go for examination in Beatrice on June 5 at 8 o clock. If either fails, Ira Casper serves as alternate.
Farmers report corn replanting after recent rains and wheat fields headed out. Mrs. Sarah Witty of Lincoln visits Diller relatives this week as locals remark on surviving hard times and merchant ads in the paper.
Fred and Everett Clark traveled to Butler County to paint a set or two of buildings for an insurance company.
Ripe home grown strawberries raised by M Callander were on the Diller market early in the week and sold at 15 cents per box.
Two thousand and one feet of paving was laid Saturday on highway No 1 north of Beat Rice, a winch is considered a record.
At a recent meeting the Gage County Board of Supervisors acted on gravelling the P W F highway and approved beginning the work about the middle of this month.
Mrs. Jennie Eby and her daughter Miss Mary Eby and their friend Mr. Mossholder a Nebraska State Journal reporter from Lincoln were guests in the A Mayborn and O J Mayboro homes over Sunday.
The Anton Saathoff farm of 830 acres located five and a half miles south and one mile west of Diller was sold at sheriff's sale to foreclose a mortgage for $13,628.00 to H. H. Meyer of Wymore. The farm will be worked next year by his son in law John Saathoff, who is farming near Breman this year.
Stargazers can watch Jupiter and Mars approach each other through Sunday night. The pair will appear within an apparent foot of each other, then recede, visible on clear nights in the Leo constellation a little south and west of overhead.
Members of the J C club met at Mrs M C Bowens home on Wednesday May 24 after the business session three contests offered prizes Mrs Keith Hays won contest one Mrs Hultz won contest two and Mrs Champ won contest three Visitors Mrs Frank Cully and Miss Gladys Hays attended. Refreshments were served and the group adjourned to meet with Mrs Johnny Romish on June 1.
Decoration day exercises at Diller featured an improvised but splendid program in the opera house with the Diller band saxophone trios a ladies quartet and congregational singing followed by Rev Helms address. Flowers were laid at Prairie Home cemetery by a committee and children amid fine weather after a drizzly past.
Hubert Filley, a student at Teachers College Peru, returned home today and plans to leave next week with friend Mr. Carson of Nebraska City for Chicago to attend the World's Fair.
The demand for 25c jig saw puzzles for one year subscriptions to the Record has exceeded expectations and will be renewed for June. Existing subscribers who missed May can obtain puzzles again this month.
Mrs Charney Waggoner officiated as hostess for the N C S A club on May 17 at her home. Members and guests enjoyed a bean counting game, saw prizes for top points, and partook in hobby puzzles and music by Miss Vivian Waggoner.
Frank Carpenter is troubled by an infection in one hand as doctors monitor his condition. The case focuses on his medical challenge and ongoing treatment.
Mr and Mrs Thos Price of Beatrice helped swell the crowd at the Decoration Day exercises in Prairie Home cemetery, adding to the turnout for the event.
Kenneth Fouts and his Seward family joined Henry Fouts of Lincoln for a Decoration Day observance. They attended exercises in the opera house and later at the cemetery honoring their mother Mrs Elizabeth Fouts.
A May 26 birthday gathering near Blauser school house corner celebrated Chris Malchow with relatives neighbors and friends. Attendees presented a car related gift and a lovely vase while prizes and refreshments followed. Entertainment featured a young performer and the group departed at dawn with many thanks and well wishes.
Mr and Mrs Steffensmeyer and O R Diehl of Lincoln visited Dr Diehl's home on Decoration Day.
Andy Jamison of the Diller area dislocated his left shoulder Saturday night when his car lurched into the door during a muddy road return from Beatrice. Dr Diehl attended and reset the joint.
Mr and Mrs R F Starr were at home early this week for Decoration day events. He went to Kearney Nebraska on a business trip for a Lincoln based eastern insurance firm, accompanied by Mrs Starr. Starr notes western Nebraska has seen unusually high rainfall this season and forecasts good prospects there.
