Weather is improving rapidly and regular band concerts are likely to start one week after next Saturday night, June 9, at the city park. A copy of the Record is heading to Cambridge College in England, a famed institution founded in the 12th century.
Advertises a good used piano and a player piano for sale cheap near Diller and Beatrice Nebraska. Provides contact by P. O. Box 62 Beatrice with terms if desired.
Mr and Mrs Devere Hale of Brush Colorado visit at the home of Mr and Mrs F W Frisbie near Beatrice and other relatives and friends in the Diller neighborhood for a period of time.
Mr and Mrs Henry Wiemers and daughter Geraldine along with Mr and Mrs Howard Prather and daughter Malvery were hosted by John Buswell at his Fairbury residence for a five o'clock Friday evening dinner.
The government weather man at the University of Nebraska on KFAB in Lincoln announced a 104 degree reading on Wednesday. He said May has been the hottest in fifty years.
Emil Tarnow visiting with a daughter in Indiana returned to Diller on Thursday evening after a cow kicked his hand while milking. The injury confined him to rest and prompted his decision to come home.
Mr and Mrs Paul Beckwith and family from Omabe visited Diller relatives and friends Saturday evening. Mrs Beckwith had just returned from Des Moines Iowa where she acted as a delegate for a Parent Teachers Association.
J Smith Diller went to Lincoln Saturday to meet his son Neal and family who arrived that morning from Chicago. Mrs Diller and baby Dallas Vivian visited at the home of his father with other relatives and friends returning to Chicago. The little lady mentioned made a grandpa out of J Smith.
A band of Gypsies, four women, four children and a man visited Monday evening. While the man tended the children two women spoke with Uncle Ebe Roelfs, the others entertained Mrs. Roelfe. After they left, Roelfe found they were two dollars short in cash.
Scott Miller Jr. completes eight years of school with perfect punctuality and only two half day absences during scarlet fever and his sister’s illness. Entering at age four, he will join high school at twelve after earning the top average in his class of 13 in the sixth grade. He plays baritone horn in the junior band and violin in the school orchestra.
Beatrice Power and Light Co. installed modern flood lights at the city park establishing a permanent setup. Kitten Ball players enjoy evening practice while spectators park cars nearby. The ladies team played Steele City and Ellis, both losses for Diller.
Diller shut out Swanton on their home field last Sunday as Labee starred with three singles a double and a homer in five at bats. Rudy Hubka added four hits and Compton showcased solid defense and timely plays. The revamped Diller squad heads to Plymouth next Sunday.
Velma Wehling and Deli Wehling attended Chick Boyes show in Hanover Kansas to enter a contest for amateurs. Velma performed a contortion act and won first prize a diamond ring by popular vote while Dell received applause for his tap routine.
John Steiner and Ab Bristol to Lincoln last Friday with Hutchinson’s truck for twine and repairs to Sam’s implement store. John, an experienced farmer, stops by the capital to observe the sower mechanism and concludes the designer erred in the sowing arm and leg alignment on the same side.
The lawn tennis club held a late last week tournament with about 25 participants. Henry Diller won the singles championship while Max Johnson finished as runner up. All members competed as the course at the school site remains in fine condition on the east side of the High School building near the Christian church.
A new sample baby grand piano is offered for quick sale at a Beatrice location. Interested buyers may contact the factory representative via P. O. Box 3 Beatrice Nebraska for viewing and purchase arrangements.
Decoration day at Diller faced extreme heat with the thermometer at 102. A city park venue shift reduced attendance, yet the program proceeded including an invocation by Rev. Drew, a vocal solo, and readings. The cemetery visit followed with flowers placed on veterans’ graves. Notable attendees included the Stotts, Limprecht, Cully, Robertson, Marstellar, Eva and Miss Nellie Green among others.
Doyle Fisher, 12, son of Mr and Mrs W H Fisher of Wymore, heroically saved Norma Jean, a 9 year old girl who slipped into the mill pond at Blue Springs bridge. He dived twice to reach her as she sank and with a playmate pulled them both to the bank after a hard struggle.
Mr and Mrs Peter Wenz finished the brick work on their new home last Thursday evening. They cleared the brick bate dust and waxed the rough floor then danced to mark the milestone. It was a cold night but they agreed it was a good time.
Agricultural agent W C Andreas reports contracted acres in drought regions released for pasture until July 1. Jefferson county, not in the drought area, may receive permission to pasture if there is sufficient feed, with change to contracted acres if the county is not designated drought. Change not required until drought developments are clearer.
Commencement at Lincoln last Tuesday drew interest from Odell and Diller neighbors. Three graduates enter Lutheran ministry. Lorin J Wolf, St Pauls Evangelical Lutheran church pastor near Diller, elected regular pastor and will begin duties immediately. Alfred Duis of Odell serves Gothenburg Nebraska. Wolfgang Goemmel of Sutton Nebraska has not announced plans.
Mrs Déda Boner died May 21 1934 in Aberdeen Washington at age 55. Born in Fairbury she was sister to Mrs L Farmer and Charles Gilmore. Educated and taught in Fairbury before moving to Washington for more school work and marriage to E E Boner who led Diller schools 1896 1900.
Superintendent Schindler arrived from Omaha last Friday to close school duties for the year. He left Sunday for Falls City to bring his parents to Omaha to meet their grandson Darrel Lee. He may attend school in Omaha this summer.
A young wife and mother of two died last Friday from a facial infection. Funeral services were held Sunday May 27 from the home and Congregational church in Diller with Rev. Heyhoe of Crete Nebraska officiating. Interment followed at Prairie Home Cemetery. A long list of relatives and friends from distant places attended the services.
Bernice Lulu Calkins daughter of Leon and Eula born June 2 1908 Marecola Oregon died May 25 1934 aged 25 years 11 months 23 days She taught in rural schools near here after high school and married Leonard Frisbie in 1930 She leaves husband two babies parents two grandmothers and many friends with a poem by Mrs F W Frisbie.
