Legion Officers for 1948 49 Elected at Regular Meeting

The Ameri can Legion elected new officers for 1948 49 at Monday night’s meeting led by Commander Otto Spielman and Vice Commander Dr S B Wiers. Installations set for the next regular session. Also noted were travel updates from local residents and a correction from the Grain Branch on Jefferson County wheat loan rates. Funeral services were held for 2nd Lt Gordon Fanders with the Diller American Legion firing squad and color guard taking part. He was killed in France during World War I.

Beatrice Man Wm Weigel Dies After Wreck

Wm Weigel of Beatrice died in a Baker Oregon hospital on Saturday from injuries in a recent automobile wreck. His funeral was held Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev Willard Lampe assisted by Rev Ross McCown officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Memorial Park in Beatrice.

Legion Auxiliary Holds July Meeting At Legion Hall

The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall on July 26 with Mrs. Dodson district chairman as guest and installing officers. Norma Weere reported on her Girls State visit with pictures and awards, and refreshments included strawberry shortcake, sandwiches, and iced tea.

Diller Softball Team Loses Opener

Diller softball opens the season with a close loss Sunday at Lanham 428. Diekman and M Hubdka formed the battery for Diller as Diekman struck out nine. Diller led until the fourth inning and showed promise in a hard fought game.

Diller Friends Hold Get Together in California

California visit by Fred Starr and wife to San Bernardino guests of John Keith and others. reunion includes 200 Red Cross swim enrollees from 120 towns, with travel by Roelfs truck to Crystal Springs pool. Starr plans August 12 meeting in Los Angeles with Beil Gemeny group before returning to Fairbury.

Margaret Sasse Obituary of a Nebraska Pioneer

Margaret Sasse later called Kuper born November 1864 in Peterburg Illinois. Daughter of Kathrine and Harris Eiletts Kuper she moved with parents to Nebraska and settled near Long Branch Humbolt. She joined the Lutheran church and remained faithful. She married Heyman Sasse February 26 1890 at Long Branch Lutheran Church. After years at Long Branch and brief Kansas residence they moved to Diller Nebraska in 1924. Her husband Herman Sasse died March 8 1945. She leaves Harm Kuper Mound Oklahoma Ernest Albert Fred of Diller Ella Fintel Hardy Nebraska George Steeles City Clara Arndt Odell eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Margaret Sasse died July 16 1948 at Elia Fiotell’s home age 83 years 8 months.

Rites for John G Kisling Held at Plymouth Church

John G Kisling 79 died Saturday at his Plymouth home. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Evangelical and Reformed church in Plymouth with Rev. George Freese officiating. He is survived by his wife six sons three daughters and two brothers. Ruth Loth, once in Omaha under doctors care, is improving and expected to return home this week.

Fire truck saves city main leak near bank

A water main leak in front of the bank building caused a diggable halt until a fire truck was deployed on Thursday. The truck pumped water from the hole while crews worked, preventing a shutdown that would have inconvenienced many. Dr Viers’ office returns to normal with Box resuming his regular chair. Mr and Mrs Rex Green travel to Sterling Colorado where they will join Mr and Mrs Harry Weddle for the Cheyenne rodeo. They plan to return by week end. Don Maw covers Rex's duties during the absence.

Bet and James Hays Jr. wed in Lincoln ceremony

Mrs Ray Eick and Mr Ray Eick announce the marriage of their daughter Betty LaRhue to James Hays Jr son of Mr and Mrs James Hays. The ceremony occurred in Lincoln on March 27 and the couple are vacationing in the Ozarks.
