William Weigel Sr. a Beatrice jeweler was seriously injured in a head on collision on U S Highway 30 west of Lime Ore. He was taken to Baker hospital with a severed ear back and neck injuries. Mrs. Weigel suffered shock and bruises. The other driver was slightly hurt. Family members flew to Oregon to join their vacationing parents.
Funeral services were held Wednesday for Marvin Roseman at St. John’s church in Lanham with Diller American Legion firing squad and color guard. Interment followed at Lanham cemetery. He was killed in action July 11, 1944 in France after serving since 1941 with the Ninth Infantry Division in North Africa Sicily and France earning the Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Rain totals reach one and a half inches over the weekend with overcast skies and cool temperatures. Harvesting nears completion though threshing remains. crops show a bumper potential if rainfall continues. Softball game set for Sunday night Lanham at Herkimer with transport from Jordening’s truck at 7 00 p m 20 cent charge. Parade planning meeting July 23 at city hall 8 00 p m. The Department of Agriculture will again offer purchase agreements for wheat corn barley oats and sorghums through December 1948 in Jefferson County. Growers may deliver any eligible wheat to the Commodity Credit Corporation for a 60-day post maturity period with no note mortgage or interest, paying a 4 cent per bushel service fee. Contact the Jefferson County ACA office for details and eligibility. The notice also reports local social notes and community events from Diller and Beatrice, including birthday celebrations and the Beatrice Gun Club Cal Waggoner Memorial Shoot promotions.

Mrs. Margaret Sassée aged 83 years 8 months died at the home of her daughter Mrs Gus Fintel in Byron on Friday. Funeral services were held Monday at St Pauls Lutheran church Diller with Rev Theodore Moebring officiating. Burial was in Prairie Home cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Waggoners Funeral Home. Survived by four sons and two daughters she had lived in the Diller community over 45 years. Obituary to follow next week.
