DILLER PICNIC PLANS FOR 47TH HOMECOMING
Plans for the 47th annual Homecoming Picnic are progressing with a two day event set for late August. The committee may schedule August 20 21 or August 27 28 with a definite announcement next week. A Ferris Wheel and Kiddie Rides are secured along with a platform dance by the Firemen both nights. Entertaining programs will be presented each evening. A hamburger stand pop corn watermelon stands and bingo will be offered with other concessions for a good time for all.
Merchants Hotel Sold at Auction in Fairbury
The Merchants Hotel oldest in Fairbury sold Wednesday afternoon to Ray Haddan for $1,250 for the three story building and $725 for furnishings. Haddan a Highway 3 trader plans to operate the hotel. The Garbers former operators retire due to Mrs Garber’s ill health and have moved to 327 West 4th.

Runaway Team Breaks Two Brothers Arm Incident
Ben Behrends and his brother William were thrown from a rack when a runaway team bolted as they staked grain on Monday. Both were taken to Odell hospital, where they were found physically sound aside from cuts and bruises, later revealed Bill had a broken right arm above the wrist. This was Ben's second runaway incident.

Injured in East Fairbury Crash Between Countryside Highway
Two men from Fairbury Ervin Scheuler and Clifford Thompson were seriously hurt when their car left the road and struck a culvert on highway No. 3 about three miles east of Fairbury. Scheuler sustained a compound fracture and cuts. Thompson a brain concussion and facial injuries. They were found by Milton Shelley near 6:45 a.m. after the 3 a.m. crash. the car uprooted a highway guard rail post 77 paces east of the culvert.
