Miss Freda from Red leads a quiet family gathering yesterday with relatives including SS uncles and Faed Eastwood. Mr and Mrs Ww P prominent residents of two of their three children hosted visitors at their home in Omaha.
Mrs Addie Koepnel a former Diller teacher has secured a divorce from her Los Angeles husband and custody of their two children. She will move to Nebraska to keep house for her brother Noah Handley on his farm west of Steele City.
Mr and Mrs J G Packer and Mrs Bert Frisbie and son Frank attended a picnic at Beatrice in honor of Company C. Frank joined Mr and Mrs one other member. The picnic, held near Chautauqua Park, was very well attended.
Diller played ball and was defeated at Beatrice last Friday by an 11 to 1 score. The team dominated the field with large territory margins.
About a dozen women met with Mrs. Reinhart Tuesday evening and laid plans for knitting articles needed by the soldiers boys. They will get to work as soon as the material arrives.
Weather and field conditions suggest threshing will not be a big job in Dittetzen locality. Half the shock may be cleared by day and night, with much left to finish by the end of next week.
In the vicinity of Diller farmers threshed this week and report fairly good yields. Barber Weddie and another grower, den, reported 35 bushels per acre of oats. Charley Fisher produced 28 bushels of oats and 12 bushels of wheat. Rank Grabber’s wheat and spicetta oat yielded about 0.0 bushels per acre.
Lee Mobley, while tending a Meyers ing machine separator at George Fisher's four miles from Tenn centate, had his right arm below the elbow cut and a gash on his face after his jacket belt caught. He was taken to a hospital where eight men were reportedly admitted with wounds. the details remain unclear.
One hundred twenty six men in Jefferson county are in the selective draft for Sam’a army from 1403 registrations. It is estimated sixty percent may be exempt, so the first three hundred drawn will likely be called for examination. Names listed include Ben Albers Charles Liycas G F Tosland Riley Steffen L Hen H R Fanders Dale Reinhart W H Tasche Carl Tarnow Scott Miller M F Hicken H Line A Olson and others. Several already enlisted. Exemption work notices expected soon and some may be called for additional examination from the remaining 1103 names. Weather and local farm notes follow with weed burner progress and winter wheat plans among nearby towns.
Mrs Grape and her daughter Evalena, who had visited friends in Diller, returned Wednesday to the home of her parents in Beatrice before Chautauqua time.
A Crook organization completed nine kits and forwarded them to Diller soldiers. More kits are prepared and nearly ready for shipment to the same group.

Leon Blauser rode to Ft Crook on an early Thursday train to visit Everett Blauser and other Diller acquaintances. Allen Nelson also rode the same train with thoughts of enlisting. The Diller Chautauqua closed last Friday with six days of talent by the Jones system but poor attendance left a deficit of about $18 on a $300 guaranty, prompting promoters to drop plans for another year.
A county unit draft system replaces township credit causing concerns over which precincts receive volunteers. Delegates from Pleasant Prairie travel to Lincoln to seek proper credit for Diller and Steele City volunteers. Officials say governor's orders limit action and credit transfers between counties may affect draft totals.
