Mrs. Ira Casper received a message that her brother Cpl. William Nicholson 22 was killed in China. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs Joe Nicholson former Diller residents now living in Tobias. Nicholson attended Diller High School and was a Methodist church member. Friends offered sympathy to the bereaved family.

Wheling in Critical Condition After Farm Machinery Accident
Ernest Wheling twenty one, son of Mr and Mrs Charles Wheling, southwest of here, is in critical condition at Lincoln hospital from injuries Saturday July 71 after his foot was mangled in a power take-off on a combine. He was alone when the accident occurred and walked a quarter mile to Mrs Vena Wehling’s home for help before his parents planned to move him to Rochester Minnesota if needed.

Adams Family Visits Wounded Son and Relatives
In Hospital Mr. and Mrs. Chas Adams of Fairbury bring Mrs Meyers to visit at Wm Meyers home west of Diller. Their son Clarence, wounded in Germany in December, was brought to the states in April and is at Ward D-13 Baxter Gen hospital Spokane. Clarence recently had a furlough and visited relatives in Diller. The Adams also have another son now in Germany.

Death of Former Diller Man Victor Nelson Andersons
Victor Nelson Andersons died at his son in law and daughter Ray Russell’s home in Laurel Montana on July 18. Born February 5 1865 in Borghol Sweden he immigrated to America at 14 settling in Fairbury Nebraska where he married Ada Fawyer in 1896. He moved to a farm near Diller in 1910 and to Camp Crook South Dakota in 1932 living with son Nic until 1944 then moved to Laurel Montana. Survived by four daughters Vera Beat rice Bernice Leathe and Russell and two sons Harold and Nic and by the Methodist Church. Graveside rites were held at Fairbury Cemetery at 4 PM Sunday conducted by Rev J L Jay with Roy Traum in charge.

Mrs Roy Diller hosted a Wednesday afternoon party July 20 for the Women’s Association of the Congregational church. The event honored Mrs Fannie Eick for her quilting work for the church. Effie Clark praised Mrs Eick and presented a handkerchief tray. The gathering featured songs by Mrs Mary Durly and Mrs Eva Green.
