Hattie Hill died Monday in a Beatrice hospital after five weeks of failing health. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Congregational church with Rev. Green officiating. Burial followed in Prairie Home cemetery. Her obituary will be printed next week.
The small son of Mr and Mrs Virgil Geer was taken to Odell Hospital Tuesday morning for tonsil removal and returned home to Diller that evening. He is recovering satisfactorily and looks forward to something good to eat.
Kathleen Johnson, once seriously ill in Beatrice hospital, has returned home Sunday. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Keith Johnson.
Esther Lamb returned Friday from Lincoln where she attended University summer school. She plans to resume studies at the University of Nebraska this fall.

Mrs Grace Combs who had been visiting her sister Mrs W I Filley and husband left Monday for her home in Kansas City.
Mr and Mrs Ed Walter and Twila Folkers with Donna Folkers traveled to Lincoln Sunday for a day in the city. They returned home late and spoke of an enjoyable outing. Tommy Ceerle of Beatrice stays this week with the Ira Place family. His mother visited Diller earlier in the week.
Mise Eloise Pool of Weeping Water spent several days at the home of her friends Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grabber and Betty.
Mrs. Jake Lottman spent several days with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mahiman in Hollenberg Kansas.
Supt. and Mrs. Carl Ludington and Stevie departed Wednesday for Milford where their household goods were moved earlier by truck. Diller mourns the loss of a respected family seen as a force for better schooling and community service. L. K. Varney, elected superintendent of Diller schools, will move into the Ludingtons’ former house with his Haddam, Kansas family.
Pfc Arnold O Lottman of Steele City Nebraska was awarded the Purple Heart at Bushnell General Hospital in Brigham City Utah where he is a patient. He earned the medal for head wounds from a Japanese grenade during an Okinawa cave clearing operation on April 4 after landing on D day in the Leyte and Okinawa campaigns as part of the 96th Infantry Division.
Cpl Keith Waggoner left Sunday evening for Valdosta Georgia to resume duties in the Medical Corps after a seventeen day furlough with his mother sister relatives and friends.
Mrs Mary Finch of Odell dies at 70. The service Sunday was at Vance Funeral Home with Rev E Powell of Beatrice officiating. Mrs Cully and Mrs Clauson sang while Mrs Logan played piano. she was mother in law to Pearl and Hazel Finch.
Cpl Clarence L Hulsman writes from Limburg Germany on July 4 1945 describing a quiet Fourth with guard duty at a prison camp and unloading German prisoners. He notes German civilians poor food and housing, farm life with small fields, and German children scavenging leftovers, contrasted with American aid and church services in a Lutheran church. He mentions a blown river bridge and Limburg Cathedral seven hundred years old while reflecting on the war’s impact.
Lt j g Harold Proctor United States Naval Reserve received the Air Medal from Commander First Carrier Task Force for meritorious flight on 19 March 1945. He pressed a bombing attack at two thousand feet into heavy anti aircraft fire during a carrier aircraft strike on Japanese fleet units at Honshu Japan. His actions supported major damage to the enemy fleet. Proctor’s wife DeLoris Abrends remains in California with the American Red Cross in Pasadena Hospital. Max Thompson’s son Dallas Leslie born July 22 at Fairbury Hospital. Max is in the Pacific.
A Diller soldier's undated poem found on a scrap over the battle of Eighelia in December 1942 is sent home to his parents. The unknown author pleads for God's help as he faces death, expresses love for family, and vows to fight for peace and a kinder world.
The writer recalls landing a pass and enjoying the trip while noting civilians vacated homes they now inhabit. They describe initial displacement, leaving some furniture, and close with a blessing and fond words.
Darlene Roelfs, daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Roelfs, won a 25 pound bag of Butternut flour from Jordenings store for her cookie recipe sent to Jessie Young on KFAB. The winning recipe Yum Yum Cookies is printed with ingredients and bake method for 16x16 pan about 25 minutes.
The Sunday gift presentation at the Congregational church drew a large crowd as Mrs. C. Steffen presented a lighted Head of Christ painting by Sallman. It was given on behalf of the children of the late Mr. and Mrs. W C Line as a memorial to their mother Jennie Weigel Line. A substantial cash gift was privately given in memory of both parents, longtime builders of the church.
Miss Eleanor Weigel returned from Lincoln after attending the summer session at the State University. Pfc. Norman Wolff on furlough visited his mother in Sterling and stopped at Jake Lottman's home Wednesday evening. Lorin Wolff and daughter Elizabeth Ann joined him for the trip to Bloomfield.
The Record corrects last week's Picnic Dinner article to include Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Caldwell and adds Mr. and Mrs. Dean Barber and Dennis of Hastings as attendees. Also noted are Mrs. Raymond, Flossie and Fern, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Amos who enjoyed a Sunday picnic at the Diller park.
A hospital stay prompted Harold Henrichs to thank friends for their cards, flowers, and gifts. He expresses that the support helped him during the illness and recovery.
Rev and Mrs Otto Spehr enjoy a visit with her parents Mr and Mrs Fenske who are staying from Huaboldt South Dakota.
