Parade officials report strong entry response and urge new participants. They request song entries with printed signs, offer music arranging help, and welcome riders, youth groups, and beginners. A meeting for those seeking any part is set for Saturday evening at 7 30.
Grieving Mr and Mrs Dean Barber the Raymonds Lawrence Cald wells and Oscar Amoses mourn the loss of their two year old Boston Bull named Chuck. The beloved pet fell ill Monday and was rushed to Lincoln dog hospital where he died.
Dr O C Diehl recalled that yesterday marked the first day of his thirty first year driving Buicks. He brought the first Buick to Diller and bought his first car in 1907 a low cost Oldsmobile. Since 1907 he has owned Oldsmobile Jackson Otto Dodge Chevrolet Ford and many Buicks.
Water users are urged to save water and avoid irrigation during dry weather to ensure proper fire protection. John Stiener, chairman, and Chas. E. Waggoser, clerk, sign. S.C. Moser traveled to Omaha Monday for his wife’s nerve operation. she is recovering and expected to return home today.
Endicott boys and girls softball teams travel to Diller for a night game under the lights at the city park. First pitch is at eight.
The Chick Boyes tent show plans performances at the Coe Picnic on August 10 and 11. Local residents are invited to attend the event featuring the touring act.
The United States Senate confirmed Louis R. Viraska as postmaster of Odell last Saturday.
The Diller Band has an engagement to furnish music at the Barneston annual picnic next Monday and Tuesday.
Mrs. Ethel Bauguess of Detroit arrived last Saturday and stayed with Dr. and Mrs. Claude Ellis until Tuesday. She traveled with Mrs. Gertrude Diller Bradley who visited Lincoln and H Diller family. Mrs. Arthur Ackerman of Fairbury joined the group en route to Fairbury. Bauguess, a former Diller teacher, now teaches in Detroit and reports an advancement this year. Her stepson Gilbert Bauguess, an electrical engineer and Boston manager, is doing well there.
At a scheduled meeting of the Order of the Eastern Star held Friday evening at Masonic Hall in Diller, Mrs L F Sinkey and Mrs Carl Ludington were initiated into the rites. Out‑of‑town attendees included Mrs Sarah Jones and Mr and Mrs Wm Jones, Mr and Mrs Lloyd Jones of Wymore, Miss F Eloise Pool of Weeping Water, and several others from Steele City and nearby towns.
At a meeting in Fairbury last Friday the Jefferson County Agricultural Association was formed to succeed the Jefferson County Farm Bureau. Elected were John Showalter president Fred Preston vice president J Smith Diller secretary treasurer. Board members include Mrs. Howard Hardy C B Callaway Merle Ronney Howard Hardy and Amos Boeckner.
Mr and Mrs Raleigh Bell and daughter Sue Ann arrive at the home of his parents Mr and Mrs H A Bell after a week in Estes Park and Colorado Springs. They report crop conditions much better here than anywhere west from Fairbury.
Mias Averil Fouts arrived here early this week from Spokane Washington to spend her vacation with her mother Elizabeth Fouts and other relatives. Her brother Kenneth Fouts and family brought her from Seward on Sunday.
The Diller Band expects to receive new uniforms today. A member noted the heat is high for wearing them, but he believes the uniforms will be worth the wait.
The Diller Orphanage receives invitations to attend a viewing of Young Mr. Lincoln at the Bonham Theatre next Monday as guests.
Mr and Mrs William Behrends Harold Evelyn and Harold Lott of Diller travel Tuesday to Baxter Indiana to visit relatives and friends for a few days.
Jansen will hold its annual picnic next Thursday and Friday, July 27 and 28, inviting residents and families to enjoy outdoor games, food, and community activities at the town park.

Johnny Sailing sustained a severe hand injury Monday when his hand was caught on a nail while climbing through a barn window. Five silver clips were needed to close the wound.
County Superintendent Mc Creight lists Jefferson County rural teachers with teaching locations. Elda Krebs District 11 nine miles north of Diller and others spread across districts near Plymouth Steele City Diller Fairbury Endicott Harbin Edna Webbling and more. There are 91 rural teachers employed and six districts report no school this year.
Ira Casper Elmer Garrels Harold Fasnacht and Merle Johnson set off west in a Ford chassis with Star touring body ready to travel. They aim to California seeking work after layoff from WPA. Mrs Grace Fasnacht reports two cards from Harold saying they cannot find work and may return home.
Fred Hatfield aged 63, youngest of the Campbell Brothers circus owners before 1915, died in Paragould Arkansas while on tour with his dog and pony show. Survived by his mother Josie Campbell Hatfield and uncles Ed and Verge Campbell, all of Fairbury. funeral services held there today.
Misses Carolyn Clark and Jean Bond and Freddie Drexler attended the Lands End play by Peru Teachers College in Peru Nebraska last Thursday directed by Fayette Horton who is at Peru summer school. They returned home Friday.
Maps show the Missouri River forms Iowa’s western boundary and Nebraska’s eastern edge. A bridge across the river would span both states, but Nebraska City’s bridge lies entirely in Nebraska due to a river course shift in 1886. The B and M Railroad built an approach across a sand bar, finalizing the bridge as wholly Nebraska.
Mrs Hepperlin widow of the late Dr H M Meonerie died at her Los Angeles home on Wednesday July. Funeral services were held in Los Angeles and the body was taken to Beatrice to lie beside her husband. She leaves two sons and two daughters. The Hepperlins founded Beatrice Lutheran Hospital and built a residence facing the hospital.
Samuel S. Pheasant died at a Beatrice hospital after a period of poor health. He lived on a farm ten miles north of Diller for 73 years, where his parents settled in 1866. His wife died in January. Survived by two sons and a daughter. Funeral services held in Beatrice.
