Mrs. A. A. Eick received a cablegram from her daughter Francis and husband in Moscow USSR with best birthday greetings. The message ends with Hope to see you soon indicating plans to return to America soon.
Endicott defeated Diller by eight to four last Sunday afternoon on Endicott field. Both teams had eight hits, and Endicott hit two balls for home runs off the school house. Daykin is scheduled to face Diller on the local diamond Sunday afternoon with fans expected.
Neil Cathrien of Noonan North Dakota and his family toured Jefferson county and noted changes since the 1890s. He recalls being the stepson of the late JB London and now works in Dakota coal in a lignite strip mine.
Dr. and Mrs. Claude Ellis arrived home from Kanarodo Kansas on Sunday evening. They report the wheat crop near their farm similar to the local area with poor crops in the plains. Jefferson county appears strong at the journey's end, and Diller is judged as the best place of all.
Dr. O. C. Diehl and Mr. S. C. Moser left early for Omaha to have Mrs. Moser undergo a facial pain relief operation at Lutheran hospital. Miss Marguerite Lemon and Miss Flossie Raymond accompanied them, the former aiding driving and the latter pausing in Lincoln.
The Diller Band has contracted for performances at Earneston July 24 25 Odell August 3 4 Blue Springs August 7 or 8 and the Diller picnic August 10 11 additional prospects are pending.
The Methodist Dorcas Society will hold its regular monthly meeting next Thursday afternoon July 20 in the church basement. Mrs Rex Green chairs the entertainment committee and Mrs Ray Eick will read the devotionals.
Ira London and family from Sacramento arrived last Thursday by car for a visit with relatives. They include Mrs. London's mother, Mrs. Stahl, who has been in poor health for some time.
Mr and Mrs Cloyd Cully from Fairbury visited last Saturday evening with Mrs Cully’s niece, daughter of her sister Mildred, who had been staying with her aunt for about a week.
Diller held a daytime Play Day with afternoon sports for boys and girls and a band stand program on Main Street. Contests included 440 yard dash won by Darrell Garrels and 100 yard dashes for girls and boys, plus a harvest themed stage scene with seven youngsters and musical interludes led by John Greider.
Mr and Mrs Donald Tincher and Pearl Bell have relocated to Denver to establish a new home. Their son Billie chose to remain near Liberty and help on Uncle Frank Tincher's farm while starting his first month’s wages there.
A meeting to organize a permanent Jeff. County Farm Bureau will be held this evening in the county court room. Attendees will elect officers and plan hiring a county agent with assistance from a representative of the Extension Service of the State Agricultural College.
Charles N. Hinds, former Odell banker, was returned to the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth Kansas yesterday for violating his parole by sending unmailable matter through the mails. He had been on parole since February.

The July crop report from the U S Department of Agriculture at Lincoln shows Nebraska corn area at 7 275 000 acres with a 28 bushels per acre yield. Wheat acres total 3 081 000 and oats yield 19 040 000 bushels. Nebraska production is 35 432 000 bushels, down from last year, while corn U S acreage is similar to last year and winter and spring wheat acreage are notably reduced.
Mr and Mrs Wm Wiemers and daughter Joyce visited last Thursday afternoon in Fairbury with Mrs Wiemers parents Mr and Mrs Onka Lottman.
