A reflective poem describes a snow filled wood untouched by humans where birds sing and the landscape glows with silvery light. The speaker laments any footprint by man and credits the scene to God’s masterful design, signed Mrs. Ray Lamb in December 1936.
The Diller Farmers Elevator Company held its annual meeting at the town hall last Thursday. The same directors were re elected. After the meeting the board reorganized naming the same officers: President Ben Roelfs, Vice President James Hays, Secretary Treasurer J Smaith Diller, and directors George Sasse and Frank Cully.
Rev. Pyche has been confined to his bed since last Sunday after a week of illness. He missed the Congregational church pulpit Sunday and may have pressed on the prior week due to his wife being away. He is reported to be somewhat better now.
Mr and Mrs James F Willer of Omaha announce the marriage of their daughter Ellyn to Howard M Jensen of Dannebrog Nebraska The ceremony was held at Benson Immanuel Lutheran Church on New Years Eve The groom is manager of a Benson drug store and the couple will reside in Omaha
A fragment notes George Grabber Lulu Johnny Jones and the Jonesesen family living on a farm near Cal ery. Mr and Mrs ones Allie Fasnacht left Diller about 36 years ago to settle in Alberta.
John Sedlacek moved his family to Diller last Saturday. They reside in the Plager house just west of town on a 40 acre farm. Their youngest daughter entered Diller High School Monday morning.
Mrs James Hays travels with her sister and brother in law Mr and Mrs Koch from east of Blue Spire to Bethany Missouri after learning of their father’s illness.
Miss Mildred Long who has been Chief Operator at the Diller Telephone Co switchboard since her mother's death two years ago will start as night operator at Marysville Kansas around February 1. Mrs Chester Weaver will assume Central office management February 1 moving with her family into Miss Longs vacated rooms. Mrs Wm Bond remains assistant operator and Miss Elsie Franzen becomes relief operator.
Alfred Malchow sues for 51100 and Willard Nippert for 25192 over a Mitchell Nebraska auto truck crash last fall that killed Arthur Malchow while injuring Alfred Malchow Willard Nippert and Dan Garton Norris B Spencer driver of the truck and Arthur Malchow the deceased driver are defendants Frank C Yates of Omaha represents the plaintiff in each case and the suit was filed last week Thursday.
The Fairbury Journal listed Jefferson County residents aged 75 to 96, with 12 above 90. In Diller, 25 names were noted, including 87 year old Fred Steffen. If the paper reached nearby Gage County, Mr. Eick would rank high. Geo. Eick turned 96 on Tuesday.
Edgar R Apking of Bruning, former editor and publisher of the Bruning Banner, becomes editor of the Clay County Sun after its sale to radio station KMMJ by Fred B Howard. He lived in Lincoln years ago and attended Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska.
Last Sunday evening a moving picture show at the city hall attracted a fair crowd, mostly country residents. Rev. Wolff spoke on missions in India, noting town folks often stay away from evening church events.
The Diller Elevator Co. printed calendars supplied by Reco and praised for quality. Other local businessmen also distributed fine calendars.
Dorothy Hinds of Odell files suit for divorce from Charles W. Hinds former Odell banker now serving time at Leavenworth federal prison.
Mrs. Margaret Packer was taken to Odell hospital Tuesday afternoon suffering with pneumonia.
Mrs. Joe Hiatt, suffering from pneumonia, was transported to Odell hospital for treatment.
A reader reports Carl Stange of Fontana California describing extreme cold affecting oranges and lemons froze in low spots. He says he is colder there than in Nebraska and Wisconsin and cannot spare money for heaters.
Dg. Stanley E. Jones cites a global religious crisis arguing Christianity must influence the new social order or risk being erased by communism. He warns against state worship and urges the church to live plainly to avoid idolatry and preserve moral authority.
The Federal Land Bank of Omaha reported a 1986 all time high in farm sales across Nebraska South Dakota Wyoming and Iowa totaling 4638 sales valued over 2.692 million dollars. Nebraska saw 62 sales for over 410 thousand dollars. Bank president Charles McCamsey noted substantial down payments with 33 percent cash anticipated on purchase by farmers and tenants seeking homes.
Clifford Blouser returned from Beatrice Tuesday where he had gone last week. He also had been in Peoria seeking work that might help him get ahead, though he failed to secure a connection.

A flyer travels from Los Angeles to Newark in 7% hours at 332 mph. Howard H Senate reportedly breaks his own record with a time of 9 hours 29 minutes 10 seconds on January 14, while cruising at 14 000 feet tracing a route 24 miles above the ground.
February 1937 enlistees from Omaha will be moved to the Naval Training Station in San Diego California. The station is very popular with young men and attracts recruits from the middle west during the winter months.
Mrs Cora Gretzinger is reported ill with pneumonia at her home near Steele City.
Reports describe Fort Knox Kentucky as housing about 6000 tons of gold valued at six billion dollars. The impenetrable vault, protected by guards with machine guns and gas release systems, will be shielded from wartime attack and operated under tight secrecy over several years.
In Minnesota Mr and Mrs Arthur Timm attend a funeral for Mrs Edw Timms. Report describes cold weather with temperatures near 36 below and many bob sleds seen around, some with houses and stoves. Authorities mention plans for a 30th festival.
