Pioneer B B Tourney Draws Teams for Feb Finals

Jefferson County Pioneer Conference schedules six schools for the annual basketball tournament at Plymouth High School February 12 and 4 with byes for Plymouth Endicott and Daykin. First round pairings include Diller vs Steele City and Fairbury reserves replacing Reynolds. Finals night decides fifth and sixth places. admission 50 cents for early rounds, 60 cents for finals. A girls volleyball tournament at Daykin February 22-23 is also planned with Berbokde entering a team. first round Feb 3. Officials Roy Holloway and Marian Bauer announced.

Diller Garden Club Plans 1950 Program at Marian Logan Home

The Diller Garden Club met last Friday at Marian Logan's home. Members answered roll with vegetable names and cooking tips. President Mrs. Upson named a 1950 program committee: Mrs. Stella Henrichs, Mrs. Elma Sebuz, Mrs. Nellie Green, and Mrs. Cora Weigel. A round table discussed forcing bulbs, ordering seeds, and propagating hard wood cuttings. The next gathering will be at Mrs. Pearl Brauser's home.

Obituary of Mrs Margaret Albers Margirethe Jotman

The obituary notes the death of Mrs Margaret Albers Margirethe Jotman born October 6 1967 in Keokuk and died in 1950 in Ojell hospital at age 52. She married Dick Albers and lived in Hanover Nebraska later moving to a farm near Diller and then into Diller. She had 13 children six sons and four daughters with eight grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services were held at St Pauls Lutheran Church with burial in Prairie Home Cemetery. Postal boxes on Janeen rural routes were shot but no theft reported. Odell library project organized by Odell Womans club raised 326 books with more ordered. library opens weekly.

Opera House To Get Repairs And Reopen

Jordening announces plans to repair and reopen the Opera House purchased from Lyman Fowler last week. Plastering, seats, windows, and the heating system will be upgraded, with regular entertainments likely to resume once ready. Built by Anna Diller in 1912, it cost over 43000 and seats 400 with hand painted ceilings. electrical work unfinished when construction halted.

Sheriff Young of Fairbury investigated thefts in Diller including beer worth over 35 from Wester’s Café stored in the ice house behind the building accessed by removing door hinges. A welding torch was taken from Harold Fasnacht’s garage last week. Harry Abrends seeks reelection as Jefferson County 2nd District commissioner as a Democrat. Diller American Legion will not host a trap shoot this Sunday and a coyote hunt draws turnout. Mrs Ralph Long becomes Sunday School superintendent of the Congregational church replacing Mrs Earl Weigel.

Goodbye Tin Lizzie ends in Diller as last private Model T sells

Charley Smith the final private owner of a Model T in Diller sold his coupe, a 1924 model purchased in 1928, to an out of town buyer. He recalls decades of service and a preference to stay in town. The Smiths also purchased a 1936 Chevrolet from Mrs Shower. Ed Stipsky spoke in Diller on on the farm training class about soil and water conservation.
