Soap and Water Good for House Plants
Mothers who find that applications of soap and water are beneficial to their children may use the same treatment effectively in ridding their house plants of certain insect pests. Certain insects such as plant lice, mealy bugs and brown scale may be controlled by washing the plant with soapy water. A soft brush or cloth may be used on plants with strong leaves while tender plants may be flooded. Two or more applications at weekly intervals may be necessary for infested plants. A soap solution can be made by dissolving one fourth of a pound of laundry soap in one gallon of water.
