Public hearing on removal of motor trains 16 and 17 through Diller

Public hearing set for February 17 at Superior on the C B Q railroad authority to discontinue motor passenger Trains No 16 and No 17 between Table Rock and Oxford Nebraska. Local towns pledge funds and form the Southern Nebraska Transportation Association to oppose the removal and hire attorneys to represent towns at the railway commission hearing.

Death Notice for Frank Andelt in Dorchester

Mr and Mrs Sam Thompson learned of the death of their son in law Frank Andelt who died from injuries after a ladder fall while helping a neighbor install storm windows at Mead ordnance plant during a lay off. Ernest Novotny and Mary Lou Thompson attended the funeral in Dorchester with burial in Dorchester cemetery.

Fire on Main St damages rear Hughes store

A Friday night blaze in the rear room of Hughes IGA grocery on Main Street caused total loss to the Beatrice Creamery Co. equipment. front stock and smoke damage in the grocery area were minor. Runaway Team Driver Stops Runaway Horses in Diller

Bob Calver was driving a team that became unmanageable after a dog darted in front of them near Herb Barbera’s house in north Diller. He held the reins tight and steered the team back onto the road, stopping near the hill south of town after they nearly reached the crest.

Kerosene Book Renewals At Fairbury Ration Office

Kerosene users in Jefferson county could renew their ration books by visiting local kerosene dealers or the rationing board office in Fairbury between 10 am and 4 pm on weekdays. At the Fairbury Legion Hall about 700 people were served over Monday and Tuesday with 16 volunteers assisting under ration board clerks.
