The Mayborns and Grandpa and Grandma May, both born on December 24, celebrated their sixty first wedding anniversary. Mrs Mayborn mistook the invitation for Christmas dinner but many relatives arrived to join in the Christmas turkey meal the following day.
The Record nearly failed to mail Thursday night due to a late press break at 10 30 pm. John Pulec, Mrs Hill, and Hod Green aided with folding papers while mail carriers delayed about an hour, allowing the paper to go out on time. The postmaster and carriers were thanked for their patience.
Mr and Mrs Rex A Green traveled to Duncan Nebraska last Saturday and returned Sunday evening. They aided daughter Eileen and her husband as they set up housekeeping in a neat home with new furniture. The note praises Eileen as a capable homemaker.
At the high school gym on Main Street last Saturday the Congo boys defeated the Methodist boys 14 to 5 while Methodist men beat Congo men 24 to 4. A rematch is planned Saturday night as Congregationalists and Lutherans clash for supremacy.
A Lincoln daily last Friday reported the birth of a third set of triplets to Mr and Mrs Jack Triplet of Jenkins Ky that day. They also have one set of twins. Mr Triplet is 35 Mrs Triplet is 32 according to the news item. There are now 11 babies in the family.
The report cites Italian air raids on Ethiopian Red Cross trains and hospitals while Ethiopians claim to have decapitated two Italian aviators. Each side accuses the other of brutal acts as conflict intensifies.
Lincoln postal officials report mail cancellations surpassed a million during the holiday rush. E G Ewins, superintendent of mails, notes it is the best sending record at Lincoln since the boom of the twenties.

Dick Willems and two sons Norman and Earl of Warroad Minnesota and brother Lorenz Willems of Pembina arrive by car in Diller to visit their mother Mrs Mary Willems and sister Mrs Scott Miller. They note icy roads, especially in Iowa. Dick heads a state district forester with 90 employees and his district won a silver urn in a statewide contest. Lorenz works for the United States Emigrant Service and recalls the Ballet Russe in Omaha. Pembina claims to be the oldest west of the Mississippi River, once larger than Chicago.
The Navy sets enlistment ages at 17 to 25 with 17 to 18 enlistees serving until 21 and others for four years. In 1935 Omaha recruiting had 4009 applicants, 334 first enlistments, and 42 reenlistments. In January 1936 Omaha will enlist 30 youths to transfer to the Naval Training Station in San Diego for training.
The Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization issued a New Year order declaring that trick questions would no longer be tolerated in citizenship exams. It cites examples such as how many legs the constitution has and asks when Ireland first sought independence, noting such items have no bearing on qualifications.
