1930 note: Herman Albers takes a job driving a truck for Standard Oil Co. County commissioners adjourned their meeting to reconvene on January 7, 1930. Rev and Mrs Ludwick spent Christmas in Lincoln with their sons and returned home Friday noon.
Charley Brandt returns New Year day from Palmyra Missouri and notes roads are very muddy there.
Mrs Earl Riddle and her son Wallace returned Sunday from Kansas City where they visited relatives during the Christmas holidays.
Mr and Mrs George Griswold and daughter Esther of Home City Kansas spent Sunday with Mrs Eila Griswold and Mr and Mrs W O Green and Cleo also visiting from Washington Kansas.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Glathar and family of Alma returned Friday to their home after visiting his parents Mr and Mrs Wm Glathar and family and his wife sister Mrs Matilda Casper and other Diller relatives and friends.
Woodman’s Doings notes upcoming Camp meeting January 9 with officer installation family invite and refreshments. Chas Waggoner pledges an entertaining program. Forest Hartzel suffers heavy hog losses from cholera after vaccinating elsewhere and importing hogs from St. Joseph and Fairbury, risking over seventy five more. Losses exceed one thousand dollars.
The Womens Club met January 8 at 2 30 P M with host Mrs John Carico and assistant hostess Mrs Frank ick leading. A Pioneer s Experience Biography of Kipling read by Mrs C sheeneen and a Kipling short story read by Mrs C Woods. Bookeriew selected and reading reelected by Marguerite Velte.
Miss Edith Franzen is spending the Christmas holidays with her sister Mrs Wm J Novotny. Mr Paul Kuper of Diller and Miss Dorothy Morgan of Beatrice were married Sunday in Fairbury.
Mr and Mrs A J Nelson traveled during the Christmas break visiting Omaha Rockport and Kansas City Missouri. Most of the Diller teachers returned Sunday December 29.
Mr. and Mrs. George Riddle and Mr. and Mrs. W H Clark and Carolynn Rose traveled to Washington Kansas on Wednesday and visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Marstellar.
Mr and Mrs Fred Dale spent the holidays with Mrs Carrie Wrigley and other relatives near Diller. They returned early in the week to their home in Wayne Nebraska.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Glather of Alma Nebraska spent the holidays with his mother Mrs Elizabeth Glather and daughter Emma along with Diller relatives and friends before returning home yesterday.
Mr and Mrs Cloyd Cully hosted Christmas dinner for Mrs Kate Tucker Mildred of Lincoln and sister Mrs W Robertson a teacher in Ansley schools and her husband and daughter Meridith of Grand Island. They returned to their homes later in the week.
Beatrice December 27 1929 graduation exercises held at the Y W C A Beatrice. Phyllis Patton of Diller received her diploma after completing the hospital training course. Attending from Diller were Mr and Mrs F W Henrichs and daughters Mr and Mrs Roy Patton and Mr and Mrs J H Patton and family. Phyllis will join a Chicago hospital after leaving Sunday.
Chris Milius president of the Jefferson County Farmers Union may set a mass meeting in Fairbury after mid January to address road issues. An invitation will go to towns and countryside to pursue tangible results rather than partisan roasts. A large Diller delegation is urged to attend to properly present local road interests.
Lewis Nies bedridden near Diller with illness. Hazel Geer returns home from operation in Beat Rice. Hugh Greenwood and Freda Kuper of Steele City wed at midnight Tuesday. An 8 lb boy born December 31 1929 to George H Schoneberg and Mabel May Webb at Hollenberg Kansas. Mrs Chester Weaver and son Dale visit Sabetha and Diller relatives.
Mrs Orleva McLaughlin received a Wednesday message announcing the death of a very dear friend Mrs John Ray of Norfolk Nebraska whose funeral was to be held yesterday.
Rev and Mrs R M Harris and their son travel from Beaver City to stay with Dr and Mrs S B Viers and friends of Harris, a former M E church pastor in the area.
Mr and Mrs T H Waggoner returned Monday from two weeks visiting their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs C C Davis in Chicago and with other relatives nearby.
A wolf hunt is set for Saturday west of Diller on a six square mile territory. Will Henrichs occupies the southeast corner, with the roundup to occur in Wagner's pasture. Wolves will be sold to the highest bidder.
Mr and Mrs Wm J Novotny entertained at their home with guests including the Franzen family from Odell Mrs Estella Fisher of Odell the Stahl family from Diller the Barta family from Wilbur the Schrieber family and daughter Doris from Fairbury and John Novotny of Odell for a large Christmas dinner on Wednesday.
Mr and Mrs John Greider Miss Alice Line and Mr and Mrs Willis Clark and Carolynn Rose were guests at Dr O C Diehl's home for a seven o'clock dinner on Friday December 27. The evening included piano and vocal music and generous house decorations plus a stylish turkey. Earlier Mr and Mrs H H Grene hosted a Christmas day dinner with extensive dishes and many relatives present including C A Green family J W Bristor children Harold and Mary and others.
On Wednesday January 1 1930 at 3 pm William F Baumfolk of Pickerell and Grace Lottman of Diller Nebraska were married at St Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church with pastor H J Diekhoff officiating Attendants included Albert Koch Katherine Lottman Adolph Baumfolk and Gertrude Lottman A wedding dinner followed at the bride's parents home The couple will reside one mile north and a half mile east of Courtland Nebraska on the Fred Foheim farm
