Homesteaders Present Cincinnati Orchestra in Diller

Homesteader Community Concert Association hosts the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in Diller on February 22 directed by Thor Johnson. The 86 virtuoso players perform as one of America's finest ensembles, with instruments valued around 250000 dollars. curtain time 8 30 P M. Jefferson County Ends 68th in Rural Teaching Pay

Jefferson County ranks 68th in the state for rural teacher salaries per the state Department of Education. The average annual rural teacher pay in Jefferson County is 2362.07 dollars, with Cheyenne County higher at 1790.19. In Douglas County a single nine month rural teacher earns 3150 dollars. Village and School Caucus March Schedule

The Village and School district No. 70 caucuses will be held at City Hall on Wednesday March and the Village caucus will begin at 8 30 p m followed by the School caucus. Terms of two village board members Herman Stahl and Frank Roseman expire this year. It is the duty and responsibility of every citizen to attend these caucuses if possible.

Woman's Society of Christ Service Met at Church

The Woman's Society of Christ Service met Thursday afternoon at the church with Mrs. Theodore Henrichs presiding in the absence of the president. Roll was called with a verse from Job quoted. Mrs. Harry Remley led devotions and Mrs. Robert Upson presented the lesson on Achieving God's Lofty Way assisted by Mrs. Perry Weaver and others. Mrs. Green directed games during the fellowship hour and refreshments were served by Madams Loren Stephens, Arthur Grone, Charles Showers, and S. B. Viers.

Community Club Meeting Set for March 10

The next Community Club meeting will be held March 10 with Jame Hays Jr in charge of the program. The music department of Diller High School will present numbers and a display of a hobby.

Obituary of Folkert Gebhard of Langdon Missouri

Folkert Gebhard born September 28 1872 at Langdon Missouri was baptized in infancy and confirmed in 1890. He married Hilka Johannah Heinrich in 1900 and they had 13 children. He died February 17 1943 after a stroke with many survivors including his wife and numerous children and grandchildren.

Initiates New Member in Weeper Chapter Ceremony

On Tuesday evening February 17 Mrs. Showers joined the chapter in an impressively staged initiation with slides of a solo sung by Mrs. Mary Cully. Mrs. Max Logan accompanied at the piano. A candlelight addendum followed with guests Mrs. Ruby Weigel Worthy Matron Mr. Ralph Lenz Worthy Patrons and Mrs. Ralph Lenz Treasurer of Weeper Chapter Beatrice. Refreshments closed the social hour.

Duchesne sophomore Camilla Hubka earns a place on the Dean's List for the first semester. St Pauls Luther League met February 22 at the church with twenty members and four visitors. League members attended a skating party in Fairbury February 28. Nebraska Liquor Control Commission rule changes take effect March 1. Howard Frazee buys L O Royle home in Diller and will move in June. Fred Sasse relocates to a farm near Diller. Charley Lucas leaves. Mrs Jacobs of Daykin visited the Record office February 2. Robert Lanner and family move to new home north of Steele City. Beverly Carpenter had an appendectomy at Odell Hospital and returned home.

Mrs. Clarence Roseman underwent major surgery at Odell hospital last week. James Hays bought the Lyman Finch farm east of town. Charley Lucas moved to the farm recently vacated by Ray Hedson. Rev Theodore Moehlring John Huttenmeyer and Elmer Sasee of Jansen led a Stewardship Meeting at the Ohiowa Lutheran Church. Sunday visitors to Mrs Fouts included her son Henry and grandson Neal and his wife of Lincoln. Herry Thompson celebrated his birthday with a call from Washington DC. Herman Seathoff becomes the new clerk in Jordenings Store.

Five Escape Overturned Near Crete on Highway 7

A station wagon owned by The Hill overturned south of the Crete corner on Highway 7 while carrying five occupants en route to Lincoln. R L Upson Mex Logan Box Holle and Jack Baker were taken to Beatrice for examination revealing only bruises. A blowout was suspected to have caused the crash and the car suffered extensive damage.
