Local notes report the smallpox outbreak at Jansen has abated and list residents moving or visiting. Capt. Andrews of Steele City, Wm. Kunecke seeking work in Beatrice, new arrivals to the area, a dance at the Warthen home, and various business notices including a Davenport Nebr sighting and a Dr. Campbell medical visit scheduled for March 1 and 2.
The Ladies Aid of the M. E. church will meet at Mrs C W Scott on March 2 1905 from 2:30 to 5 p m. A literary program will be given and light refreshments served for which 10 cents will be charged. Each member is asked to bring one guest.
A surprise dinner honored Fred Starr on his 24th birthday last Sunday at the Starr home five miles southwest of Diller. Attending were Mr and Mrs Fred Starr Captain and Mrs J W Starr Mr and Mrs J C Stucker Dr and Mrs L A Powell Mr and Mrs R V Thompson and Mr and Mrs Fred Clark.
Advertisement claims a sick headache stems from a stomach disorder and that Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets can cure it with one or two doses. It suggests taking a tablet at first symptoms to ward off or lessen the attack and notes Spear Drug Co. sells the product.
A program of vocal and instrumental solos duets and rhetorical pieces will be held Friday evening March 3 at 7 30 at the M E church. Home talent performs with no admission charged and an invitation to all in Diller and surrounding community to attend.
Notice warns the public to beware of counterfeit imitations of Dr King’s New Discovery for Consumption coughs and colds. Emphasizes buying only medicines with the genuine H. E. Bucklen & Co. name on the wrapper, from Chicago or Windsor, Canada, to avoid fraud.
The notice seeks volunteers to phone and report information about all visitors and social gatherings in town and country. It asks for a detailed guest list, including even distant generations, to be recorded for public awareness.
Diller Camp No 1668 Modern Woodmen of America voted at its Saturday meeting to hold an oyster supper for members families and prospective members on Saturday March 4. Supper at 6 30 pm will be followed by a musical and literary program and the adoption of candidates.
J. T. Briggs shipped a carload of household goods Tuesday and his family followed yesterday due to unavailable housing in Havelock where he owns a lumber yard. They will live at University Place temporarily until a home can be built, leaving many friends in Diller who wish them well.

Miss Minnie Wood visited relatives in Oketo Kansas on Wednesday. Mrs. Geo Fisher and children visited her father in Wymore as he prepares to move to Wisconsin. Henry Madden returned home from Rock Island Illinois after a couple of months with a daughter and family. An entertainment at M E church is set for Friday evening March 3. A gold finger ring is noted as found and inquired at this office.
Announcement of a public sale on George Myers farm one mile south of Diller on Tuesday February 28 starting at 10 o’clock with a noon lunch. Items include six head of horses and mules ten cattle sixteen hogs and farming implements. Also notes a new daughter born to Mr and Mrs Fredricks of Philadelphia and mentions Mrs Fredricks formerly Miss Lucy Harris of Superior.
Geo. H. Clark formerly of this place now in Tacoma Washington has been dangerously ill from kidney trouble but late reports say he is somewhat better. His son Bert Clark a railroad worker there was recently relieved of 67 dollars his monthly wages by a masked robber within a block of home.
Miss Harriet McCaslin of the First National Bank will move to Topeka Kansas for a higher paying position. While in Diller she contributed to Sunday School and Christian Endeavor work and the Presbyterian ladies thank her for her help and praise her as a fine Christian young lady.
A Times representative visits Diller and praises its neat homes, active merchants, and well stocked stores. The surrounding rich agricultural region yields huge corn cribs, fine livestock, and deposits near two hundred thousand dollars in local banks. The Diller Record is lauded as the best paper in a town of that size.
The Diller banks were closed all day Wednesday as it was a legal holiday. Rural mail carriers did not run that day. Smith Diller moved into town and now occupies the residence he recently bought from J. T. Briggs.

Norfolk resident C Rivenbark Jr reports Bucklen's Arnica Salve eased a severely burned knee and left no scar. The Fairbury papers note the death of Mrs E A Baldwin of paralysis in Wichita Kansas and her burial beside her husband in Fairbury cemetery. Her daughter Mrs L W Eldridge of Fairbury survives. Rebekah Lodge aided at the funeral.
The text explains that rosy breasted grosbeaks are mistaken for robins in several towns. The birds originate in the far north and appear in severe winters. They resemble robins but are shorter and stouter with brighter red breasts and bodies adapted to cracking conifer seeds.
The Collier's Weekly publisher paid about 45 000 for thirteen Holmes tales, the largest sum ever for such work. Doyle agreed after repeated inducements and the stories will run in The Kansas City Star starting Feb 11 in the daily and Feb 15 in the weekly. The Star will not cut features to fit. B F Lightner and wife visited Sunday near Lanham with friends. Harve Seaman of Davenport Iowa, who arrived Friday for a brief visit with his father in law 8 Clark and other Diller relatives, returned home on No 16 Monday.
