A letter from Francis Clark states he remains bedridden at a Los Angeles hospital in Topeka for a week or two after doctors operated last Wednesday and plan further treatment. His daughter Connie fell ill with fever and tonsillitis but is expected to recover and go home this week.
About sixty Diykin Community Club members sign resolutions favoring reestablishment of the Jefferson County fair starting in 1938. The resolutions go to the Fairbury Chamber of Commerce and county fair board as many residents oppose CCC on the fair grounds.
Mrs W Logan fell on her porch Tuesday evening while gathering a load of stove wood. She sustained a deep cut on the lip needing stitches and was taken to Fairbury for treatment before returning home Wednesday.

Reverend Pyche gave an informal talk, a class treasurer’s land fund report was read, two ladies’ quartet numbers entertained, Mrs Frank Cully sang upon request, and refreshments were served by Mrs Line and daughter Mrs Steffen.
County agricultural office states there is no provision to reclaim processing taxes paid, regardless of signing or not signing adjustment contracts. Some individuals and groups are soliciting money from farmers with false refund promises.
A six room house with two lots at 4th and 1 streets in Fairbury with delinquent taxes totaling 2162.45 dollars was sold at tax sale last week for 900 dollars. Alfred Huttenmaier and wife with Merle Huttenmaier and wife and sons came from Beatrice last Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Elias Hadley. The first Mrs Huttenmaier is the niece of Mr. Hadley.
Mr and Mrs Charles Cavett of near Blue Springs and others from Geneva Beatrice and area were visiting the Cavett home last Sunday.
Mavis Holle contracted mumps and is staying home from school. Her mother keeps busy tending to her needs as the family adjusts to the illness.
Miss Edna Ruyle of Beatrice has been elected a teacher in the schools at Torrington Wyoming. She is the daughter of H R Ruyle.
C G Catlin, Jefferson county treasurer, filed for nomination to seek another term.

Mrs Scott Miller of Beatrice travels to Lincoln for an all day district executive board meeting at the Lincoln Hotel. Plans are laid for the Fourth District convention April 19 and 20 in Stromsburg Nebraska with officials Mrs H W Nothomb Mrs S Miller Mrs W Stewart and Mrs C A Kemper plus guests Miss Mary St Martin and Miss Mary Priscilla Stewart. Lyle DeMoss noted at radio broadcasting HQ.
Jefferson county 4-H selects ten boys from 24 applicants to receive pure bred pigs under a Chamber of Commerce plan. Lawrence Gill, 13, of Dittler, and Lloyd Schnuelle, 18, of Harbine, head the group with Russell Magen, son of L H Maden, named as one of four alternates.
Mr and Mrs Cnas BE Waggoner left Sunday afternoon for Omaha on a shopping trip and returned Tuesday. Mr and Mrs John Greider accompanied them to Lincoln and back by the same route, arriving home Tuesday.
Rev. R. E. Deadman announces retirement from ministry after serving as pastor of the Fairbury Christian Church. His headquarters will be Beatrice, where he plans to enter the insurance business.
Dr B. Viers and Roy Patton collected about 500 board feet of native walnut lumber from a farmer near Lanham for the school district. The lumber was planed in Fairbury and stored at the school house work shop for manual arts students at about twelve cents per board foot. The item is framed as a practical lesson in measurement and cost of lumber.
The Journal reports a failed government plan on the Fairoury farmstead southeast of town. Tenants who tried to make five acres profitable have fallen deeper in debt and five of ten have left voluntarily. The land will be divided among fewer tenants with extra houses rented for residences. The homestead was allotted to tenants about eighty years ago.
George Fisher started plowing his garden last week and inspired others to follow. Herman Sasse plowed next, and Mr. Roussler observed then began plowing his own garden. Several more gardens were worked but no potatoes planted to our knowledge. Yestern Car Michael rallied neighbors to plow as well.
County commissioners decide to rent most land of the county poor farm southwest of Fairbury and will sell most livestock at public auction next Monday. Buildings pasture and garden land to be kept for superintendent and inmate use.
Otto Sechnuelle holds a sale at his place north of Harbine today. Advertising matter appeared in the paper last Friday. Schultis and Searing are handling the sale proceedings with Geo Arnold of Geneva serving as clerk.
Mrs. Jennings and two children arrived from Powell Wyoming to be with her husband who recently opened a garage and electric welding shop in Pulee's old stand. They are living in the office rooms.

Harry L Riley and his son Harold are not working at the stores today as they remain at home for a season to recover from mumps.
A February 6 gathering at Mollie Nickeson’s home in Harbine celebrated her birthday with many gifts and five birthday cakes. Guests sang and played games, and refreshments were served. Attendees included Mrs. Carl Jacobs and others, with out of town guests Grandma Wolters of Plymouth and Mrs. Art Wolters among them.
Mrs S B Viers entertained the NCSA club and three guests on February 6 with a business meeting followed by games and crafts. Mrs Carico won the smelling contest, Mrs Moser dressed peanut dolls, and Mrs Waggoner created a heart puzzle. Refreshments were served and a club party for members and husbands was planned for February 23 at Mrs Chas E Waggoner’s home.
Mrs O J Mayborn entertained the Booklover's Club at her home in February. Thirteen members and guests attended as Mrs Mayborn reviewed Richard Haliburton's Seven League Boots. Lunch was served and Mrs Richard Mayborn presided at tea. The next meeting, March 11 at Carl Ludington's home, will feature Maude Smith Delavan's The Rumelhearts of Rampler Avenue. Visitors invited.
The JNC held its monthly meeting at Mrs. Keith Have's home with all members present. Guests included Mrs. McCullough of Basset Nebraska and several members. After a brief business session bingo determined top players Mrs. Albert Hubka and Mrs. Weers. Lunch prepared by Mrs. Hays featured sandwiches and dessert. New members Mrs. Bowen and Mrs. Weers joined. The March meeting will be at Mrs. Frank Weber.
The Young People's Fellowship will meet Sunday at 6 30 PM to discuss How Can We Make Our Society the Best Possible Society. Pub. Director invites all to join for an engaging session.
