School Board Reappoints Diller Public Teachers for Another Year

The School Board at Tuesday night meeting elected all teachers of Diller Public School for another year. The district reports smooth operation and harmonious progress with cooperation from patrons.

Local Notes and Entertainment Ahead in Week

Gus Dressen wears his straw hat on Wednesday. Bonnie Green visits home folks Sunday. Diller Band to perform at the opera house next Wednesday at 8 PM with free admission. Program includes band music readings comedies sketches and monologues by local residents. Free doughnuts offered at Waggoner Bros. Hardware Saturday afternoon at 15 cents a dozen.

Library Band Concert Lunch Event

After the band concert on February 21 the Library Association will serve sandwiches and coffee for ten cents. The lunch will be served in City Hall.

Geneva visitors and local school staff noted

Dr. J Bixby and Mr C G Hrubisky with Miss Edith Roby and Miss Ruth Ann Coddington of Geneva visited Sunday at the Cavett home. Coddington serves as musical supervisor in Geneva schools and Roby teaches in the grades.

Bridge Party Honors Two High Scores at Hays Home

Mr and Mrs Keith Hays hosted three bridge tables on Saturday February 3. McKinley Bowen won the men’s high score and Mrs Bowen the ladies high score, each receiving prizes. Refreshments were served later. Guests included Mr and Mrs Adolph Bevan Seppe Frisoger Mr and Mrs Ken Ve Gerald Mr and Mrs Clarence Hiatt and family and Mr and Mrs Rudolph Hubka and children.

Diller sails for Europe to study ancient Greek geography texts

Dr. Aubrey Diller an instructor in Latin and Greek at the University of Michigan since 1930 departed New York aboard the S S Berengaria on February 14 for a year in England and France. He is the son of J Smith Diller.

Bill Koch of Odell visited Tuesday and saw a large bull snake on the road, confirming local wildlife activity in the area.

Kieth Waggoner Badly Injured In Motorcycle Crash

Kieth Waggoner son of Mr and Mrs C L Waggoner suffered serious injuries when his motorcycle tandem with Ira Casper blew a rear tire near town. They slid 60 feet on gravel. Keith was treated at George's Cafe and later by Dr Hughes. Despite bruises and cuts, no bones were broken. Ira Casper escaped serious harm.

Boulder Dam and county road projects praised as best handled

The piece lauds the Boulder Dam road project as the county’s largest undertaking. It notes 10 000 work hours at 40 cents per hour for Oaks place and Boulder Dam. A $4 000 payment aids laborers. The north south road may be graveled next season but residents want Diller road gravelled.

Mrs Glenn Brauser hosted a surprise party for her husband on Monday evening February 12 with guests including Mr and Mrs Elmer Lohman Mr and Mrs Ralph Seifferd Mr and Mrs Walter Clemma and Leora Mr and Mrs Floyd Maw Mr and Mrs Ray Eick and Betty LaRue They enjoyed rock and a luncheon of fruit salad cake wafers and cocoa. Visitors from Rockford attended church in the Methodist setting and recalled Rev Drew’s past parish.

CWA Meeting At Fairbury Reports County Projects

W A Snyder and Rupert Andrews represented Diller at the Fairbury CWA session held in the court room Tuesday evening. They highlighted needs including cement gutters on main street and two county road proposals near Charley Wright road and Willis Clark residence. Five new projects may start if another grant arrives, with schools seeking funds through the county superintendent. praise for the executive committee and Mrs Clark.

Operetta Pleases at High School Asks the Professor

The high school Boys and Girls Glee Club presented the operetta Ask the Professor Wednesday evening in the opera house. Miss Marjorie E. Lyle directed with faculty support. Attendance was strong and performers showed careful training and willing response.
