The article notes the eastern and northern parts of Nebraska enduring a historic cold snap with 20 straight days averaging two below zero and Omaha facing persistent low temperatures. It records seven inches of snow locally while other areas saw heavier snowfall and describes worsening road conditions across the state.
Mrs Warthen received word of a painful accident involving her grandson Forest Warthen of Concordia Kansas. Forest and a friend were boarding a car when he attempted to pass behind the vehicle at an intersection and was struck by a speeding car. No bones were broken, X rays showed. Despite painful injuries his condition is not serious and many local acquaintances are relieved by his safe recovery. Forest is known in the area and works as an auditor for the Kansas Power Co office in Concordia.
Described as a deserted town last Saturday Diller saw only a smattering of arrivals. Names listed include Orval Richard son Albert Sasse Alvin Stahl Henry Wessel Bill and John Leaper John Lottman Ted and Herb Wasserman Albert Koch John Folkers Chas Lucas Wm Stagley and two youths from Elmer Greider’s with Lew Barber and Vern Chancellor arriving from Shea by train.
A heavy snow week has left the WFE from the county line toward Fairbury impassable. Men opened the route with one way ditches shoveled, snow piled higher than cars on both sides. Passage impossible through the cuts, hindering access for sickness at Alonzo Specht and Clifford Girton.
A February program will be held at district 60 located two miles south and two miles west of Dale on Friday February 21 at 7 30 pm. A plate dance contest will follow the program. Plates are 10c each. Everyone is cordially invited. Dorothy Barta teacher.
District 74 hosts a district program this Friday at 8 o clock. A play titled A De ferr ed Proposal will be presented. Pearl Sparks, a teacher, invites all to attend.
The Congregational Keystone Tadis announce an all day Saturday doughnut sale at Waggoner Bros. store. Each dozen doughnuts will cost 20 cents.
Edna Jobman welcomes a son born Sunday February 9 to Mr and Mrs Berthel Wever.
A scarlet fever outbreak hit the Clifford Garton family near Shea with two children then the mother falling ill. A Burlington train crew let Dr Diehl detrain near Shea and a grandmother rode 200 yards to care for the sick. Similar aid last week helped a mother and child reach a dentist at Pawnee City. Verily a little child shall lead them.
At a Feb 1 1936 meeting in Fairbury Jefferson county farmers formed a tentative Jefferson County Farm Bureau with Lee Cramb Gladstone as president Geo H Johnson Fairbury Claude Nider Harbine as secretary treasurer and directors J Smith Diller Alfred Brabaum Lee Dragoo. The group aims to extend 1936 programs complete wheat and corn hog contracts and finalize over 200 000 in benefit payments plus obligations from 1935 wheat applications totaling over a million dollars for the county. A temporary Executive Board schedules a countywide representatives meeting in the county courthouse next Saturday afternoon to plan organization work and the future agricultural program.

Mrs C H Cully was a guest of Odell Women's club at Mrs Howard Linville's home on Thursday afternoon last week. A travel program by Mrs Geoing highlighted European experiences from last summer. In the evening the Cullys and Mr and Mrs Clarence Rosecrans of Chicago were supper guests at the Linville home.
Born to Mr and Mrs Orville Belding an 8 pound daughter Dorothy Jean on Friday February 7 1936 at home in the city.
Mrs Green hosts the Keystone Kensington at her home with Mrs Ray Green presiding. Officers and committees were elected, reports read, and contests held with prizes for Valentine modeling and culinary skill. Members bid farewell to Friday and Weimers as they move, lunch at gates noted.
Obituary for Paul Stange of Diller Nebraska recounts birth in 1861 in Schackstedt Germany and emigration at age 14, marriage in 1897, and death in 193? at age 74. Funeral at Congregational church, burial beside his wife in Prairie Home cemetery. survivors include Mary Roessler, Ferdinand and Carl Stange, Ruth Stahl, Herman Stab, and grandchildren. The rest notes local sports trophy win for Diller, county tournament schedule, and a long club meeting with the Diller Woman's Club celebrating its 17th anniversary with sewing, songs, and installations.
Mr Carl Stange from Fountaia California visited the office on Wednesday and described his garden crops including potatoes radishes lettuce and beans. He noted the country seemed frozen stiff and wondered how his plants were faring back home.
A bid invitation was published this Wednesday for gravel work on highway No. 103 from Diller north to No. 3, a length of 5.4 miles.
Plymouth News editor L. J. Koepff and his son Robert escaped injury when their car hit frozen snow on the highway, plunged down a bank and overturned. Koepff blamed the automobile for ruinous effects on small towns and called for a return to horse and buggy days.
