Adam Gretzinger and Noah Handley attended the auction of the Stoneman farm west of Diller held in the city hall. About fifty locals were present as the 303 acre property sold to a Princeton, Nebraska buyer for 44 dollars per acre, though some residents call it no sale.
The Nebraska Supreme Court held that an automobile driver entering a public highway from a private driveway does so at his own risk and must account for traffic to avoid accidents. Cutting in ahead of fast moving cars on highways is dangerous.
The WPA project north of the Steele City cemetery resumed Saturday with 35 men on site. Officials expect 80 workers today as many men need steady work to support their families during a harsh winter.
Mr and Mrs Scott Miller traveled to Omaha Monday where Scott attended a mule safe. They started home but the storm forced them back to town for the night and they returned to Diller Tuesday. Green attempted to serve the mail route during their absence.
There is no danger of a coal famine at Diller though supply was comparatively low in the latter part of last week. Six cars of coal arrived since last Saturday with each dealer getting two cars. all three dealers expect one or two more cars to arrive at any time.
A Sunday afternoon blaze started in the heating plant of the Christian church at Virginia, destroying the edifice and all furnishings. The loss is estimated at $5,000 with $3,000 insured. It was the village’s only church.
Francis Clark reports his mother Mrs Ida May Clark staying the winter in St. Petersburg Florida. A regular churchgoer she notes the need to arrive early to secure a seat in the churches of that city.
Ben Hall Jr moved with his family from Lincoln to this place last week and has succeeded Will Bend on the auto sales and delivery route for the C. A. Cooper Company. He took charge Monday.

The home of Mr and Mrs Clifford Garton near Shea was quarantined last Saturday after their 11 children developed scarlet fever.
Superintendent E L Novotna was re elected head of Beatrice public schools and will sign a three year contract. Local residents with ice houses report thick ice ranging from 10 to 12 inches across the area.
The Beatrice hotel, recently closed, resumes operation with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hoffelfinger as the new proprietors.

Rev Shupe addressed a small audience in Diller Tuesday evening on the Ethiopian situation. Wm Leask and a Mr Randall attended as the county YMCA organized a series of four educational talks in Fairbury area with different speakers. The lecture argued Italy as aggressor and showed Shupe’s extensive study of the topic.
A large crowd watched a Diller game last Friday. A Blue Springs CCC team followed but disorder arose when several players, including the organiser, drank hard liquor, making fools of themselves and disgracing their group.
Carl Grabber of Beatrice suffered a skull fracture and brain injuries when his motorcycle crashed into a car on West Court Street as the car turned into a driveway Saturday. He was operated on at Lutheran hospital and has a good chance to recover. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Henry Grabber of Beatrice and nephew of Mr and Mrs Frank Grabber of this place.
Farmers face water shortages as pipelines freeze and tanks ice up while some local sewer systems go out of service. City water remains functional but private connections report difficulties during the cold spell.

Henry Wiemers named president. 1935 financials show endowment receipts and disbursements totaling 675.74 with endowment fund subtotal 5,947.50 and certificates 4,045.00.

Mrs Alonzo Specht is reported to be recovering from a recent illness as family and friends note improvement and cautious progress at home.
Paul Stange, 74, long ill and bedridden, suffered a fatal stroke Sunday at 5 20 PM. Found unconscious on his floor by Mrs Griswold after returning from the coal bin. He died at 11 45 PM. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church Thursday afternoon. The obituary will be published next week.
Joseph A Price 80 died January 31 1936 at Beatrice after a two week illness. He was born May 18 1855 in Ohio and married Thirsa E Crumrine in 1877. They farmed near Superior and Harbine before moving to Diller then Beatrice. Survivors include his wife and brother Thomas Price Tucson. daughter Dora Price Brpke died in 1917. Buried in Evergreens Home cemetery Beatrice. Reverend R B Fouts officiated.

May company refused the deposit and may face a city lawsuit to block enforcement until the courts rule. If the firm remains open, the money is refunded. if not, the deposit becomes an occupation tax.
A deputy collector of internal revenue will be in Fairbury Nebraska February 21 24 25 1936 to assist taxpayers in preparing their returns with no charge. Those meeting income thresholds must file a return.
