The Community Club will meet Thursday at 8 P.M. in City Hall. A program on hobbies and movies will be shown.

Jefferson County announces the annual county fair will run August 9 to 12, moving up from September by decision of the recent fair board meeting. Logan serves as chairman with Clarence as vice chair and Winslow as secretary treasurer.

Trapping Licenses Extended to June in Nebraska

Nebraska trappers receive license relief as 1947 certificates, normally valid 12 months, now expire June 30 instead of January 1. Licenses bought last year will cover 18 months, while hunting and fishing licenses remain valid January 1 to December 31.

1948 License Plates Issuance and January Traffic Report

The report notes 4988 licenses issued up to Saturday evening and 753 truck licenses for January. Nebraska Safety Patrol Captain C J Landris reports January highway fatalities fell to 14 from 25 a year ago. Motorists risk fines for out of date plates and must pay car taxes.

County Officers Exchange Offices In Court House

County offices will relocate within the courthouse as the Assessor and Register of Deeds switch to year round schedules. The assessor’s office recently adopted a year round timetable and requires more space. Neal Diller visited Diller area last weekend. He stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Max Logan from Friday to Sunday. Stanley Diller also visited Diller and stayed with the Logans during the same period.

District 11 Legion Meeting Highlights Growth and Plans

About 40 delegates attended the District 11 meeting at the Boys County facility. Roy Lang outlined the Pirie plan to elect district officers from the boys and have them visit the courthouse to file their capacity. William Sandman Jansen presided as district commander with delegates Podendorf Champ Clark and Spissman in attendance. Nebraska ranks first regionally in membership, district 41 is fourth, February marks the district’s fifth anniversary.

Gage County Raises Coyote Bounty to 2.50

Gage County increases the bounty on coyote scalps to two dollars and fifty cents, up from one dollar. To claim the reward, sign an affidavit swearing to the kill, ensure the animal was killed in the county of claim, and present a green scalp with ears to the nose.

March of Dimes Campaign Yields 837 in Fairbury

The Fairbury Lions Club drives the 1947 1948 March of Dimes campaign. Of 4,500 individuals contacted Ane Jefferson County 428 responded with about 837 dollars. About 4,072 did not donate. Contributions may still be sent to March of Dimes Fairbury.

Wheat for Europe drive closes with donations and bids

The campaign in county circles raised 1123 bushels of wheat and 3790 dollars for Europe relief led by Elmer Sasse. Milford hosted the Fat Man’s basketball team in a charity game with the Pip Club and wives. Milford won 25 to 20, proceeds benefiting the March of Dimes.

Soil Conservation District Poster Contest Announced

The Jefferson County Soil Conservation District sponsors a poster contest open to fifth to eighth grade pupils. Topics include soil conservation subjects such as Contour farming and Terracing. Prizes for each group amount to five dollars for first, two for second, one for third. entries due April 17, 1948, with winning posters to be displayed in Fairbury.

Reynolds Triumphs Over Diller in Plymouth Opening

Reynolds defeated Diller 55 to 35 in the Plymouth Tournament opening game of the Pioneer Conference basketball tournament on Wednesday night.

Eighteen Coyotes Killed in Plymouth Wolf Hunt

Eighteen coyotes were killed during the Plymouth wolf hunt held last Sunday by local hunters. Participants in this hunt and those joining the next event west of Plymouth are announced. An old time dance is planned in Plymouth on February 9.
