A nostalgic town greeting from the Home Paper Cheers the community spirit. The note thanks readers for loyalty and urges ongoing cooperation to improve the town and its welfare in the new year 1928.
Merny Christmas greetings mark a lively period as Harry Green moves into a new home and Geo Andrews of St. Joe visits Diller. Mrs Robt Johnson and family from Beatrice spend Sunday at the Johnson home in Diller. A Jefferson County Integration Club meeting was held Monday night at the Hotel and Supt Nelson was called to Fairbury for duties.
The Ditler business firms nearly all express appreciation to their patrons. They send compliments for the holiday season and invite continued patronage and support from their local community.
Officer Herman Peters named V C and Frank Johnson A named as another officer for Diller Camp No 1668 M W A for the year 1931. Election took place with members present and voting.
Mrs Kinsman’s sale is noted. Hutchinson loses a good horse after running in corn stalks. Farmers Grain Co ships mixed stock to St. Joe market on Tuesday. The Record will print two extra pages this week for Christmas ads. At James Swain’s sale a span of white mules sold for 13.50 and a fourteen year wagon brought 52.50.
Notice invites families to Sunday morning December 21 for a Christmas program and the usual Christmas Treat distribution after. Attendees urged to attend with children for a wholesome community event.
Mr. and Mrs. Perry Weaver entertained the M. R. Club at their home last Friday evening. High score was held by Mrs. Ray and row score by Mrs. George Sasse. Christmas decorations adorned the rooms and guests included Mr. and Mrs. Hen Weaver Mr. and Mrs. Ray H. son Fayetta. A late refreshment course was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo Sasse.
A Fridae Dec 19 event near Diller features a Christmas program and plate supper. Greetings are extended to readers and friends as winter and the year end approach. The notice mentions gifts and radios and a shopping push by local merchants.
Sister Mrs White left for California last week immediately after his sale. She owns three quarter sections of farmland between Diller and Ellis. James Swain is mentioned in relation to the events.
A nephew of Momma Fry visited from Saturday to Monday while his mother and sister were here for about three weeks. Snow fell Sunday and Monday but mostly melted by Tuesday night, with a fresh inch or two accumulating later, raising hopes of a white Christmas.
At a recent meeting the county commissioners appointed Roy N McCord John Plager John Nider and Fredholdt on the county fair to succeed those whose term expire January 1.
Alvina Roseman hosted the L. A. L. C. ladies on Thursday December 4th. Despite bad weather four members attended while others were unable to come. The group spent the afternoon piecing guilt blocks for the hostess and enjoyed delightful refreshments. This was the last afternoon meeting.
The December meeting of the Girl Reserve met Tuesday evening at the schoolhouse in the Primary room. After a brief business session the program committee led a Christmas program with Vivian Ever performing on the auxophone and Eileen Reen at the piano. Christmas carols were sung and the gathering enjoyed a good time before adjourning with the Mercy Christmas phrase.
Harry Fisher suffered severe burns to the face neck and hands on Tuesday while operating a gasoline pump for Allen Davidson removing sand from the river northwest of town for road work and other projects.
R W Green and George Rahman drove to Lincoln Sunday while Mrs Green and Norma visited Mrs R E Colman and family. The city led up to Christmas with decorations at their best and Santa Claus seen in town.
John Charley and Will Leaper with brothers in law John Ridenour and Geo Furry traveled from Steele City and Fairbury to Maple Hill Kansas for the funeral of Arlo Leaper an eighteen year old son of their brother George Leaper.
The Emil Ahlman 80 acre farm fourteen miles south of Jansen with a 5 room house barn cow shed well windmill and 60 cultivated acres sold at auction last week for 7.50 an acre. buyer is Harry Walbaum.
Prices paid for grain include wheat 1.57 5I, corn 80 cents, oats 26 cents, rye 16 cents, corn 13 cents, spring 12 cents, roosters noted.
