Diphtheria Claims a Victim in Local Family

The home of Mr. and Mrs. John Adams was struck by diphtheria when their eight year old son Chester died early Wednesday. Rapid onset left little time for treatment after parents and doctor were summoned late at night. The tragedy comes as several other children in the family show early signs.

Funeral of Mrs Mills Held at Prairie Home Cemetery

Mrs Wm P Mills long a resident near Hendley Neb died Monday at her home from a carbuncle infection. Body brought to town for burial in Prairie Home Cemetery due to diphtheria precautions. Pleasant Lodge No 96 Degree of Honor escorted remains from depot to cemetery and the funeral followed their ritual with Rev C J Davis of the Methodist church.

Mrs Wiegel and Mrs John Miller visited the schools Friday. Public schools will close Friday for a two week holiday vacation. The high school basketball team played Endicott Thursday evening. Mies Lambert will spend vacation at Guide Rock. The Literary Club concluded education brings greater happiness than riches.
