Community notes include sick list updates and holiday greetings. Dist 57 hosts a program and plate supper on December 19. Local obituaries report Mrs. Pete Nelson’s death in Odell. A birthday celebration for John Weers drew many relatives. Wheat allotment contracts in Nebraska total $560,000 with Jefferson county receiving $85,120.
An advertisement for Moffat Lump coal from Cornbelt Lumber Co in Diller Nebraska promises bright clean hot coal with low ash at good price. The notice also mentions Mrs Earl Pearce of Chicago visiting Omaha and Diller to care for her ill father in residence with her husband and Lloyd Hurst meeting them.
The J N C C met at Mrs Geo Champ home on December 1 with all members present. Guests Mrs Orval Richardson and Miss Frances Hilder attended the afternoon and quilting for the hospital was done. Mrs M Cwen invited the club to meet with her on December 20.
Cryatabell Rameey daughter of Mr and Mrs Homer Rameey had her right leg broken when the horse she rode to school stumbled and fell. Mr mA Hick and Mr Albert Sasse carried her to Rick's house where she was made comfortable until she could be moved to Odell hospital. Dr C E Rice set her leg.
Word from community indicates the Collier's Comedians who played Wednesday nights at the opera house last winter will perform at Diller soon. If plans hold, they may appear on the first Wednesday night after Christmas. The community is seen as welcoming due to their entertaining and orderly conduct. Also reported, the Degree of Honor lodge met at Mrs. Orpha Waggoner's home last Thursday afternoon to elect officers and conduct business. A surprise party for sister Addie Bell arose with guests arriving at three o'clock and a two course luncheon was served afterward.
The article notes the corn hog appropriation of about forty million dollars is four times the wheat benefit. If Jefferson county follows this proportion, local farmers may see larger corn and hogs payments next year.
Marjorie Maw daughter of Floyd Maw was brought to Odell hospital with appendicitis. The appendix burst before arrival and she underwent surgery soon after admission.
County Attorney Hubka of Beatrice was in town on business Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cully and Mr. Clarence Steffen were Monday dinner guests in the homes of Mr. Moffit and Mr. H. Z. Diller respectively.
The owner editor and publisher Frank T Pearce has died after forty seven years as chief pilot of the Diller Record His passing was peaceful and conscious of those around him A complete obituary will appear next week in these columns
A cooperative vocal and instrumental recital at the Methodist church last Sunday evening drew praise for its length and variety. The Diller community extends thanks to Mrs Wilbur Schindler Miss Marjorie Lyle Miss Lucille Hanson Mr Robert Diller and Dr G W Ainlay for a pleasant inspiring evening.
A Nuptial reception honored the newlyweds Mr and Mrs Orval Wiemers with a dinner party hosted by the Wiemer family and Mr and Mrs Sam Friday. The bride’s cake served as a centerpiece on the long table, decorations in white and other wedding color motifs graced the scene, and guests joined in celebratory toasts and good wishes for a peaceful married life.
A private reception hosted by Mr and Mrs Friday featured Miss Flossie Raymond at the piano with Mr Chas Griffith and Mrs Frank Cully in solos and duets. Readings by Bonnice Riddle and Carolyon Clark followed. The hostesses cut the brides cake as guests enjoyed impromptu numbers and departed with warm congratulations to the couple. Attendees included Orval Wiemers and family, Henry Wiemers and family, Alpha Wiemers and family, Harry Ahrends and family, Gastelow of Lincoln, Corda Wiem and Rev Helms, Frank Cully, Willis Clark and family, A A Eick and Griffiths family, and Miss Flossie Raymond.
Rev. W. E. Ludwick 74 longtime Presbyterian and Reformed minister died Friday at his son Ralph’s Lincoln home. He came to Nebraska in 1906 pastored Ulysses Seward Diller St. Marks Reformed before retirement in 1931. Survived by sons Paul Ralph John Earl and two brothers. Burial Wyuka Lincoln.
The Opera House hosted a Saturday night performance by the Methodist Sunday School youths. Harold Bristol and John Flint commanded attention in a clash of misdeeds and heroics as Stam Smith arrived to save the old man’s home worth 100000.
