J. D. Delno of Winchester Kentucky, manager of a J C Penny store, reports a bumper corn crop and a market price of 1 dollar per bushel. Farmers are happy after a long dry spell though tobacco is drying in sheds awaiting rain.
Mrs Mary Strocky over 80 broke the right arm above the elbow when she slipped on ice while fetching rainwater. Found by Julia Dymacek, the fracture was reduced by Dr Diehl and the patient rests as well as possible at her age. She expresses frustration but hopes for a quick recovery. Miss Lois Nicholson has been engaged to care for her.
Agricultural Agent W C Andreas announces spring seed applications are open. Government seed is purified and cleaned for germination and weed removal with resale restrictions to landlords for tenants at purchase price. Farmers Union Elevator cooperates with Mr Senson. grain moves after January 1 via Mr Benson's office. Local farmers with surplus seed corn should notify the County Agent.
The paper urges groups to submit party club church and school notices by Wednesday to meet press forms. Mail by Wednesday or earlier. Thursday mail arrives too late for the Thursday afternoon edition. Late affairs will be queued for the current issue if possible.

Superintendent and Mrs. Schindler visited Omaha with their son and stayed at Mrs. Schindler's mother's home. Miss Grubb and Miss Mares joined family travels near Council Bluffs and Dwight. Coach Mablin returned to Rising City, while Miss Smith and Miss Raymond remained nearby. Several teachers spent Thanksgiving with relatives in Beatrice Campbell Diller Diller Fairbury Alberti Lee Bennett and surrounding towns.
Mrs. Erla Hadsell, 52, of 2619 North Fifteenth street Nebraska, wife of Rev. W L Hadsell, former pastor of the Diller Methodist church, died after being crushed between cars on federal highway No. 6 ten miles west of Lincoln. She had been moved to St Elizabeth hospital where she died Monday morning. The five-car crash occurred during sleet and icy pavement on a severe driving day.
The annual bazaar and supper will be held Saturday December 8 at the church basement. A variety booth will accept donations and attendees can enjoy a meal for 25 cents with drinks for 15 cents.
Mrs Jennie Line and daughter Miss Alice join Mr and Mrs R Steffen and Richard and Mrs Elsie Schnuelle of Fairbury to attend The marriage of Nanette operetta at North High School Omaha. Pauline and Dwain Beckwith are noted among attendees with others from Des Moines and Dre E Steffen.
Mrs Mary Willems daughter of Mrs Scott Miller and her companion Mrs Christie Seaman went to Dr Foote s Memorial hospital Hastings Nebr last Sunday for cataract removal from the left eye. The operation Tuesday morning used local anaesthetic and lasted about fifteen minutes with no blood shed. The outcome will be known after bandages are removed in about two weeks. Mrs Willems has been gradually losing sight in both eyes and is now nearly blind.
Jefferson county records show 56 students at the University of Nebraska this year, up from 34 last year. Fairbury supplies 42 students, with others from Jillior, Powell, Reynolds, Harbine, Daykin, Endicott, Gladstone, Jansen, and Steele City. Notable students include Lynn C. Cully and Eloise Diller from Diller, Mildred Mayborn in the graduate college, and Harbine trio Hilda Arnold Gretchen Kohler. several are members of sororities and honor societies.
Joe Hiestand of Hillsboro Ohio named captain of the All American trapshooting team from the 1984 Grand Tournament. Cal Waggoner of Pelé also named to the honor group. complete list to be announced January 1.
Mrs. H. T. Davis remains confined at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Wayne Babcock son of Mr and Mrs Earl Babcock northeast of Fairbury has been awarded a trip to the National 4 H Club congress with the International Livestock Exposition on December 27. The Rock Island Railroad honors one outstanding county member annually for this trip. Babcock joined 4 H in 1926 and has completed Baby beef Rope and Fix It clubs under Ernest Leonard as local 4 H Club leader.

Wiemers brothers and Dale Friday return to Diller in a Fruehauf refrigerator truck after a 6000 mile trek from Diller to Chicago Kentucke Columbus Boston and back. They hauled 22 000 pounds of eggs and butter and to Brightwood Massachusetts and then Fish to Columbus Ohio. The crew notes fast eastern roads and 40 mph average while sharing humorous and curious impressions of Yankee fish-yard lore andNebraska life.
Tests for Bangs disease may occur in Jefferson County within a week or two if enough applications are filed. Federal inspectors are assigned to counties with the most petitions. Several applications have been sent from this county and testing may begin soon. Farmers urged to use available means to eradicate contagious livestock disease.
