Higgins Boys Lose Wheat and Oats in Farm Fire

The Higgins boys farming W Line's land a mile north of Dilley suffered a blaze Friday from a threshing machine that destroyed eight stacks of wheat and oats. Loss estimated at 700 bushels of oats and 600 of wheat, including Line’s rent share. Insurance around $200.

Rattlesnake Nearly Bites Local Man In Diller Area

Lee Calkins from three miles northeast of Diller narrowly escaped a rattlesnake bite while hanging rubber boots in a cellar. The snake struck from a ragged edge of the joist as he worked, causing a tense moment last week.

Nebraska State Fair Opens With Record Exhibits and Attractions

The 1912 Nebraska State Fair begins next Monday September 2 with stronger exhibits in machinery cattle and farm products and expanding permanent facilities. Major attractions include Harold Kantner Aeroplane flights Liberati New York concert and Grand Opera Com best racing, plus Irwin Bros Cheyenne Wild West Show. President Taft and ex president Roosevelt reportedly journeyed to see this show. Governor Johnson will speak at the Fair Grounds on Lincoln Day.

A local merchant announces the opening of a fall goods stock with new hat ideas inviting women to visit. Tincher and Rigdon confirm purchase of Dr. and G. Aunt Tasche born Johanna Dorothea Hinz 1845 in Sheboygan died at 57 years 8 months after caring for her nephew William Taache and five children. She requested burial with her sister in Sheboygan. Funeral services and wake held at Taache home with Bible verse reminders.
