C E Waggoner has resigned as grain buyer for the Diller Farmers Elevator Co after purchasing an interest in the hardware and furniture store. F E Hale is chosen to replace him and will begin buying next week. He plans to move his family to town later. Ed Henriche of Harbine Bank drove from Beatrice with a sick horse, left it at the feed barn, and it died after the morning.

Pioneer settlements and the Kelley Emerson store room

The Fairbury Gazette notes D R Kelley as a founder of Diller and owner of the early ret house now called the Emerson store room. It states Kelley built the house about thirty two years ago and watched the town grow to eight hundred. The store was moved in 1880 to the west side of the new Colman hotel.
