Profits From Culling Herds Aimed By Farmer Records

A farmer weighed milk and tested butterfat in February and tracked feed costs. He earned $27.48 above feed costs across 18 cows, 16 in milk, equating to $1.38 per cow. In March he sold eight cows to a butcher, leaving ten cows with one dry, yielding $1.14 above feed costs per cow, or $5 192 per cow? Removing eight cows more than doubled the above feed cost for the herd, plus labor savings. A full year of records would be safe and not time consuming.
