SA Woods of the state vocational agricultural department announces the veterans on the farm training program. A meeting is called for all veterans interested in the program on Wednesday September 1 at 8:00 p.m. at the Diller schoolhouse.
Fall weather in Diller shows highs in the upper 80s and nights near the 50s. An inch of rain is expected Friday and Saturday. Farmers anticipate a sizable crop with favorable growing conditions.
District list identifies 80 teachers for upcoming term in Diller area and nearby town districts. Names include Orma een Elaine Champ Mary E. Freitag Joyce D. Arrangements are completed for the opening of the Diller public schools. Superintendent He Frazee announces registration for high school will be held Friday Sept 2 from 9 to 12 am and 1 to 4 pm. Grade registration occurs Saturday. Complete announcements next week noting available courses.
A county redistricting meeting on August 31 at 8 p.m. will be held in Fairybury High School auditorium. County superintendent T Boone will invite all rural and city school board members. attendees may vote on the county redistricting committee. Stanley L Hawley will explain the redistricting law and nominating plans. The committee will have nine elected members plus the county superintendent as secretary. Four rural and four city board members will form the committee with one at large member.
Veterinary researchers report that feeding piglets aged one to two weeks skim milk powder mixed with water and minerals can cause illness. Earl and wife travel to Colorado to visit their son, with one parent possibly staying longer. others visit relatives in Diller and Beatrice.
Tony Zeeny supplied two tall cornstalks from his upland fields near his homestead a four acre tract report notes last year’s yield reached 62 bushels on one stalk. A taller stalk came from a one acre tract near the railroad stockyards. Wheat crops in Jefferson County were poor this year and weevils infected much of the crop. AAA loan applications for wheat were cut from 16 to 11. The village board street and alley committee D E McKenzie and Roy Casper said county maintenance will open and clean ditches in Diller next week offering an opportunity for property owners to install or renovate culverts or driveways. Elias Hadley repaired the Record building roof Wednesday.
The Veterans Administration will begin dividend payments on National Service Life Insurance after January 1. Dividends depend on premium payments policy size and policyholder length. Application forms are available from local Legion service officers on August 29 or by mail from the post office. Applicants must provide name address all service serial numbers policy number birth date claim number if any. A one cent stamp is required on the filled card. State Legion says power of attorney not required.
Veterinarians advise relocating feeders to a new pew spot daily for range poultry flocks to prevent coccidiosis. In other notes a Methodist church class party is planned August 26 from 8 to 10 PM in the church basement with lunch served. Flora Kisling returns to telephone duties after five weeks away with partial California absence.
The wedding of Gloria Joyce Miller and John Charles Aasen took place at 3 p m Sunday August 21 at Diller Congregational Church in a ceremony attended by about 200 relatives and friends Rev Robert Pullen officiated with musical performances by Carolyn Goodrich and soloist Scott Miller Jr The dress included orchid teffeta and pink rose taffeta gowns for bridesmaids and attendants carried orchid bouquets.
The county contract targets a bridge west of Steele City replacing flood damaged spans. A Valley county bridge near Ord will be dismantled and rebuilt at the Steele City site. Lincoln Bridge Co will paint and ship two 80 foot spans weighing 1 ton each, delivered late October. Cost not released. half or more may be paid this year with an emergency note to come from next year’s levy.
