Obituary and local notes from Beatrice area

Carl Schulz sr 82 died at home in Beatrice after living there since 1938. Born in Germany April 5 1862 he was a retired farmer and blacksmith survived by wife Wilhelmina five sons and one daughter twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild with two children predeceased. Funeral at Beatrice St John Lutheran Church burial Evergreen cemetery. Nebraska pheasant and quail season to be set by state game commissioners Saturday after pre-season survey informs population trends. Also notes August 21 Keystone meeting at Mrs J H Frazee home and visits by John and May Sailing of Kenton Washington who traveled 16 hours by airplane. Jefferson County Old Settlers Picnic today at Fairbury City park.

Huttenmeyers Move To Tecumseh

Mr and Mrs John Huttenmeyer relocate to Tecumseh to join a family business and pursue different work. Their son Victor leaves for Tecumseh to begin football practice with the high school as the Rural Radio Association announces Lexington’s approved 25 000 watt station KRVN due to launch around November 1 serving farm families and cooperatives.

54th Diller Picnic Draws 7000 Plus In Parish Parade

The 54th annual Diller picnic drew more than seven thousand as crowds jammed streets for the parade and first night festivities. WIBW radio entertainers drew large crowds for the second night while the American Legion dance filled to capacity. A rider named Lloyd Pefferman was injured in the parade but is reported recovering. Barbara Green welcomed a new son in Lincoln.

Diller Schools Set Registration and Faculty Meeting

School registration for Diller public schools is scheduled for September 1 and 2 with a faculty meeting planned for Saturday morning September 2. Mrs Eva Green has returned home from a three week vacation to Washington and visited Spokane and Yellowstone Park en route before traveling to Nebraska and Kansas to visit relatives. Local residents along the CB&Q line hope diesel freight trains become regular after testing, noting a ten hour savings on Denver to Kansas City routing. Supplies for the Record Office will be available next week.
