Congressman Curtis reports three vacancies at Annapolis and one at West Point for 1942. A run-off exam will be held October 4, 1941, at all first class post offices for district residents aged 16 to 20 for Annapolis and 17 to 22 for West Point. Candidates may apply for both exams but ranked for one.

Birth of Grummert Girl at Beatrice Mennonite Hospital

Velma Sixel and Harold Grummert welcome eight pound daughter born Sunday August 17 1941 at Mennonite hospital Beatrice. Grandparents Herman and (Mrs) Sixel celebrate first granddaughter. Over 200 delegates and guests attended the fourteenth annual state Luther League convention at Lanham church from Nebraska Kansas Iowa and Missouri. The event featured sermons by Rev. Herman Goede and Rev. Oelke with programs including debates plays pageants addresses and a bus shuttle between Lanham and Diller.

Pioneer W. E. Mudge Dies at 86 in Diller Nebraska

W. E. Mudge born April 28 1855 aboard a ship near New York later lived in Missouri and Beatrice before homesteading on Sicily Creek. He married Elizabeth Methias July 4 1880 and had four children Ray Muriel Coradelia and Ethel. Survived by three children two brothers one sister six grandchildren eight great grandchildren and many friends. Funeral services held at Waggoner Funeral Home with Rev. W H Clark officiating and interment at Prairie Home cemetery Diller.

Death of Beatrice Resident Charles H. Mudge at 74

Charles H. Mudge died suddenly at his daughter's Beatrice breakfast table last Thursday morning at age 74. He had been in declining health and was born in Elm township Gage county. Survived by daughters Mrs. Miler Beatrice and Mrs. Efferman Ellie, plus sister Mrs. Rock Beatrice and brothers Nathan Beatrice George Texas W. E. Mudge Diller. W. E. Mudge died Saturday. Services conducted by Captain S O Massey at Harmon Johnson Funeral Home with burial at Evergreen Cemetery Beatrice.

Weaver Rites Held For Henry T Weaver

Henry T Weaver born Cincinnati Indiana 1872 lived on a Beatrice area farm. He married Orpha Sparks in 1894 and had five children. He died August 16 1941 in Odell at age 68. Funeral at Beatrice Methodist Church with burial in Diller cemetery.
