J. H. LeRoy announces his candidacy for the Republican County Treasurer nomination, subject to the decision of the Republican County Convention. He presents his bid as a formal entry in the upcoming party process.
Wm. Nida visited Burlington for Pawnee City while Herbert Stotts returned from Hubbell Nebraska. The open season for prairie chickens begins September 1. Lon Specht returns from western Kansas land viewing. Gold mines abandoned by Spain near the Panama Canal may reopen. Diller hosts a two week sale September 1 to 10 for half price photos.

Dr. E K Paine of Fairbury will be at Hutchinson's barn in Diller on Tuesday August 22 for veterinary services. Dr. L R Fritz of Wymore added a new independent telephone to his office equipment to aid out of town patients. Miss Edna Young of Albion visited Paul and Mrs Stange then went to Lincoln for a few days. Mrs Chadwick’s assets total seven tenths of one percent of her $3 000 000 indebtedness.
Semi annual notice reminds patrons that telephone rents are due September 1 for those not paying in advance. Anna K Ord, former principal of Diller public schools, leads a higher class reading and drawing session at the Fairbury teachers institute. Mrs Ord, pupil at Emerson School of Expression, participates this week.

A heavy rain swept Nebraska last night promising strong corn yields. W. P. Mills with wife and daughter Bertha set out Friday to seek land in southwestern Kansas. Miss Florence Seaman departs tonight visiting Colorado Springs Idaho Falls and Tacoma on a Portland trip.

The Old Settlers Association of Gage county announces its annual business meeting and picnic at Beatrice chautauqua grounds on August 24. Judge H. P. Davidson of Tecumseh will deliver the day’s address. Activities begin with a 11 a.m. business session, lunch at noon, concert at 1 p.m., address at 2 p.m., and social time until 5 p.m.
George W. Brant of Gage Oklahoma writes of good barley early corn and broom corn, plus fine oats kaffic corn and mille maize. Wheat yields 5 to 15 bushels per acre, watermelons plentiful, peaches at 2 dollars per bushel, tame plums at 1.50. He renews his Recoup subscription.
Obituary notes the death of Peuben Gretzinger at 22 after a brief illness on Sunday morning August 13. He married Sadie Bixby on June 7 and had lately begun married life. The service at the Presbyterian church included a sermon by pastors and a male quartet, with prayers for comfort for the family.
