JB Zook traveled to Crete on Wednesday as a Jefferson County delegate to the Democratic Congressional Convention and then to Lincoln to visit his wife and daughter. His daughter is recovering well from an appendicitis operation.
A cautionary note extols Bucklen's Arnica Salve as essential for injuries from burns sores boils and minor cuts claiming it reveals fatal danger. The ad promotes a 25 cent price at Spear Drug Co.
The Ladies Missionary Society of the Presbyterian church will meet with Mrs William Woods on Thursday August 18. It will be a kind of picnic so please bring your lunch. The pastor will talk on missionary work among the cannibals of the New Hebrides and other program features. Mr and Mrs Knauer will sing a hymn translated by Mr Knauer in the ae tongue. All are cordially invited.
J. W. Sutton returned Saturday from work in Alabama for the National Home Protectors' Association of Beatrice, of which he is secretary. He is arranging to move his family to Beatrice in the near future.
The church ladies who served meals at the McManes hotel picnic day express gratitude for liberal donations and patronage. They earned about 75 dollars for their day’s work. Mr and Mrs Sherman Willey of Hastings, former Rock Creek residents, visited with John King and family who attended the picnic and watched their two sons perform an acrobatic exhibition praised by the crowd.
A Columbus Nebraska wooden shoe factory run by C. A. Lutz for about sixteen years, is the only similar plant west of the Mississippi besides Davenport. Special to the Lincoln Star reports Frank Wylie of Ellis Nebraska was seriously injured at his home two miles south of Ellis while stacking grain. He slipped from the stack and the end of a fork handle embedded several inches into his side, leaving him hangs until helpers in the field freed him.
An advertisement claims a rundown system and despondency lead to self destruction and promotes Electric Bitters as a preventive tonic. It is described as a nerve strengthener and regulator for stomach liver and kidneys, offered at 50 cents with satisfaction guaranteed by Spear Drug Co.
