The Methodist ladies will serve home made ice cream to the public next Saturday evening in St Hutchin’s building on Main Street east side. The church will offer a conventional serving size as the band plays outside.
A late Saturday band concert was delayed when Mr. Wood faced a puncture on the way from Lincoln. The professionals keep a tight schedule, so a single tire issue can cause a noticeable delay. The Saturday night performance proceeds as usual.
A letter from their son Lyle and wife in Tupelo Mississippi says the old timers anticipate the biggest cotton crop in years. The core looks fine and picking has begun as plans move toward a large harvest.
Light showers and receding temperatures marked the week's start with forecasters predicting a wetter spell soon. Residents noted the cooler air is welcome by people and livestock alike as the weather trend continues.
Mr and Mrs Roy Geer left Sunday for a two week vacation. They did not announce their destination but were headed for the Canadian border. Frank Eick is managing business at the lumber yard during their absence.
Mr and Mrs Juline Ochs of Sheboygan Wisconsin are visiting friends and relatives in the Harbine neighborhood. They formerly resided north of Diller. They report crop failure and heat and drought equal to Nebraska's worst.
Miss Hazel Blauser of Lincoln visits her brother Gleen Blauser and family north of town then leaves Wednesday for a Colorado vacation duration of two weeks visiting relatives there.
Mrs. Ethel Bauguess of Detroit Michigan spent a few days here visiting friends. She left Saturday morning for Wood River where her parents and other relatives reside.
The O. A. Cooper Co's warehouse at this place is too small for their use, hence a carload or two of mill products are stored in a north main street room.
Rolf Beckman has been working for some time on refinishing the woodwork and walls inside the Steele City public school building, improving its interior with careful carpentry.

Rev and Mrs Pyche and daughter drove to West Point Nebraska to visit another daughter at the start of the week.
Mr and Mrs Jess Brandt of Lincoln spent the weekend with friends and relatives at this place and Steele City.
Miss Myrtle Hutchinson is at home again following her appendicitis treatment at Odell General Hospital.
Next Tuesday evening the Steele City Men and Roys softball teams will face Diller on the local grounds.
Wendell Fanders arrived Friday morning after a week with his friend Henry Diller in Denver.
Mrs Fred Offer announces a summer meeting for the Jefferson County Women's Project Clubs open to the public. Mrs J H Jeffries of Odella will present a travelogue of the Triennial Women's Conference in Washington last spring and summarize conference highlights to familiarize homemakers with conference activities. The meeting is set for August Lith at 2 30 PM in Park Fairbury and all interested women are urged to attend regardless of project club membership.
Plymouth boosters arrived Friday for a two day picnic advertised for yesterday and today. The Plymouth band performed several numbers on Main Street. Editor Koepft was to speak, but a sparse crowd reduced turnout. People were unaware the visitors were coming.
Rev. Arthur S. Dodgson pastor of the Fairbury Baptist Church preached his farewell sermon Sunday evening in the city park auditorium to a large audience. A reception for the pastor and family followed. Dodgson and family will move soon to their new home in Cincinnati Ohio.
The library hosts a Tuesday morning story hour with room for more children. The space is lively with girls making doll furniture and others sewing as they enjoy a friendly, busy reading atmosphere.
In a Nebraska city park pool a trout about one foot long is seen with a fishing hook and string snagged in its mouth. The scene is described as a curious example of wildlife interaction in an urban setting.
Leonard Wiemers left the latter part of last week for Detroit in company with several others to drive home a new Plymouth coupe for his own use. He was expected home Wednesday but had not arrived at press time Thursday evening.

Mrs Bell Atkinson and her son arrived Tuesday from Santa Fe New Mexico to visit at the home of her mother Mrs Carrie Sparks and other relatives in these parts.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Gorr are visiting at the home of his parents Rex and Mrs Green and family.
Keith Waggoner came back from a trip to Grundy County, Lens, where he met with Friday's group for discussions and a brief visit.
Mrs. David Greider will celebrate her 90th birthday Saturday August 8 1936. She came to the community from Carlisle Pennsylvania in February 1880 and has lived here 56 years. Family and friends plan a small evening gathering with cards, telephone calls and a piano selection.
A historical note recounts the Odell Oracle describing spontaneous fires caused by oil and oxidizing dust piles from sanding and waste. It warns that oil with oxygen is highly flammable and advises storing oily rags in airtight containers and avoiding damp newspaper piles to prevent ignition.
Howard Stotts from Lincoln arrives with his mother Mrs. Bertha Stotts and sister Eva for two weeks of vacation from work and study. They dine with Mr. and Mrs. Hod Green Howard then travel home, with Eva staying locally to Wednesday evening. Relatives host Miss Maxibe and Gordon Patton who visit before returning to Lincoln with Howard.
Lawrence Thompson, an Indiana farmer, helped two men who claimed hogs escaped after their truck broke down. Thompson aided them that night and, next morning, discovered he had helped the strangers steal his own hogs.
Harry G Bayler, chairman of the Western Association of Railway Executives, states that no passenger died in 1835 from a train collision or derailment in the country, despite faster schedules and heavier traffic.
Mrs Theressa E Van Laning ham of Beatrice files a district court petition against Fred H Van Laningham seeking a divorce and restoration of her maiden name Polfus amid long running non support charges.
The fortieth consecutive picnic will be held at the city park on north main street in Diller Nebraska on August 14. Governor Cochran will address Friday evening and ball games are scheduled daily with a new dance platform and midway attractions. Rex Green leads the program with the Sherman and Egge PA system. Admission is free for park activities, with a nominal fee for ball games.
R D Hemminger aged 72 an longtime resident of Beatrice ends his life in the barn at his home by taking strychnine Despondence over ill health and other matters given as the cause He is survived by his widow two children and a brother Heaggy Hemminger Funeral services announced for Friday afternoon.
Alfred M. Tatro 47 of Odell died last Thursday evening. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Odell Methodist church with Rev. Proett officiating. He came to Odell ten years ago from Burchard where he ran hardware and implement business. He later joined his father in law in a furniture business under Gahler & Tatro and took over after the founder’s death. Though not a licensed embalmer, he directed local funerals for years. He is survived by his widow and five children, three nuns and two daughters. Interment followed at the Qiell cemetery.
The H. H. Club met Tuesday afternoon with eight members present. Guests included Mrs. Margaret Packer and Mrs. Albert Schieidler and son. Mrs. Packer won high score, Mrs. Weav er took consolation. Lunch followed. Mrs. Arthur Grone invited the next meeting.
Bristol arrived last Thursday evening to collect his children who had stayed several months with relatives at the location. The family departed Saturday for their home in Fowler Kansas.

The U S Department of Agriculture Drought Committee adds 34 counties to drought territory across Missouri and Nebraska, bringing totals to 97 in Missouri and 40 in Nebraska. The designation aids relief programs and restricts certain loans and reduced freight rates to eligible drought counties. Nebraska counties listed: Antelope Burt Cedar Cuming Douglas Hamilton Holt Jefferson Madison Pierce Sherman Webster.
