Towns Organize to Keep Trains

The Garden Club hosts a May 14 meeting at the library with Hawaii flower slides as guests from Wymore and Blue Springs. Diller OES members join Violet Chapter ceremony honors 50 year members. Roy Geer improves after a heart attack. Towns form Southern Nebraska Transportation Association to restore night trains from Table Rock to Oxford, with state railway commission set for May 5 hearing.

Elm Livestock Masters Bid Farewell to Four Members

The Elm Livestock Masters held a farewell party April 25 at the Elm Center schoolhouse for Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Finch and Wayne who will move soon. Wayne received a club gift as a sendoff, a tree donated by the Knight of Ak-Sar-Ben was planted in the Elm Center school yard. The next meeting is set for May 2 at Lawrence Richardson’s home. Mrs. R. W. Wilson of Concordia Kansas arrived Thursday for a few days with the Geer household.

Diller Community Club Meeting May 6 With Films

The Diller Community Club plans a meeting on Thursday May 6 featuring an interesting program and a special picture about national capital activities along with a feature film. Local businesses stock a full line of seeds for farmer delivery and readers are urged to read the elevator ads. Governor Peterson spoke at the Diller Lutheran Church last Sunday evening addressing foreign problems and meeting attendees. Herman Harding and Norma Weers were named as the local delegates to Boys and Girls State to be held in Lincoln June 12.

Diller Wins Pioneer Track Meet at Fairbury

Diller High School tops the Pioneer Conference track meet with 75 points led by Carl Beatty's 26. Carol set a Pioneer record in high jump 5 ft 9 in and won pole vault. Herman Harding and Melvin Hubka also earned multiple podium finishes. Diller 4x mile relay won. state qualifier next at Crete. Womans Club Elects Officers and Hears Mexico Impressions

At the April 21 meeting Mrs Glen Loog opened the program with a hot 16 match against the Diller Woman's Club. Mrs Clara Alen led the day and shared impressions from a Mexico visit, detailing scenery, religion, customs, government, food and celebrations, and the Pan American Highway ascent. Moist social hour refreshments were served by the hostess and helpers Mrs Keith Hays and Mrs Clarence Steffen. The next event is the Mother-Daughter meeting in May. New officers elected: Pres Mrs Earl Weigel, VP Mrs Robert Upson, Sec Mrs O J Mayborn, Treasurer Glen Long.
