Judging at Fairbury on April 15 and 16 by Mrs. Tilden of Hastings focused on originality and pupil ability. Miss Logan, district 56 teacher, won first place for the second time in county exhibits, continuing a four year streak in Educational day events at Diller.
A large black cloud from the southwest produced lightning but only a light shower in town. Odell roads slick from rain. Early Thursday a second cloud brought .52 inch of rain in our area.
Agricultural Agent W C Andreas announces that Prof C S Bare Extension Entomologist at Nebraska Agricultural College will return to Jefferson County for his first beekeeping demonstration on Monday April 29 at 2 oclock on the Ernest Kriesel farm six miles west and one mile south of Fairbury.
Six Diller people responded to the invitation from the Fairbury Chamber of Commerce to lunch at the Mary Etta hotel banquet room on Tuesday noon. Attendees were Rev. Drew S C Hutchinson Francis Clark S C Moser W A Snyder and O J Mayborn. Rev. Drew gave a short address. A pleasant time was reported.
Diller has delayed arrangements until the last minute. The event belongs to the soldiery and their relatives who should sponsor it, with citizens ready to assist.
On Monday April 22 Miss Smith, Rachel Diller, Gretchen Fanders and J. Smith Diller were guests at the Fairbury Rotary Club luncheon held at the Maryetta hotel. Rachel played two clarinet solos, Gretchen sang two solos, and Miss Smith accompanied both singers.
Dr Diehl has spent most days caring for measles patients and administering smallpox vaccines. No cases currently in the area, but residents are taking precautions.
Agricultural Agent W C Anders notifies that drought relief rates for feed are extended through May 381. The ruling covers reduced hay and roughage rates for farmers in this state.
Educational Day will be observed here in a big way on Friday May 3. Eleven rural schools are invited to participate. See the school notes for further particulars.

James Hays is recovering well after his illness and has returned home. He recently lost three of his best cows since returning from the hospital.

A 1932 dent corn sample tested 98 is offered for sale by Chester Sparks. The ad notes either bin run or graded product available and invites inquiries from interested buyers.
The Nebraska state emergency relief committee rules that men on relief who refuse offered private jobs lose eligibility for relief during the period they could have supported their families. Employers must report refusals with job details to local relief offices. confidentiality is maintained. A temporary job does not jeopardize future relief opportunities. Fairbury Journal.
Chas N Hinds former Odell banker convicted last Friday of using the mails to defraud on two counts in a Dell Rapids bank robbery scheme. He was acquitted on one count of possessing stolen property. A motion for a new trial was filed in Lincoln federal court citing an inconsistent verdict and alleged errors. Local Odell comment noted Charley felt he should have his way but not against Uncle Samuel.
An all classic concert for National Music Week will be presented by the Diller Community Orchestra under Mrs Schindler at 8 o clock Sunday May 5 in the M E Church Miss Hanson and Miss Grubb will sing and Miss Smith with Mrs Schindler will perform a violin selection The public is invited to enjoy an evening of good music and a program and music appreciation lesson will be announced next week in the paper.
Mrs. H. H. Greider widow of Harry Greider died at home northwest of town after a week long illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 PM from the home with interment at Prairie Home Cemetery. An obituary is expected to be printed next week.
Miss Hazel Place paid her subscription a year in advance this week marking a 47 year continuous record for the Place family with the Geo. Place subscription dating from April 20 1888.
Cornbelt Lumber Co in Diller offers Carbo line mite killer at 50 cents per gallon. The product targets mites and is marketed for home or farm use through local supplier channels.
A letter dated April 16 from Herman Diekman to his parents in Burlington Colorado describes extreme drought and dust storms. He reports no winter snow or rain, prices for hay, potential stock sales, and local cattle and hay movement despite efforts to find feed. The note laments black outlook, dust in the air, and ongoing wind shifts with no moisture since last August.
The library thanks the Harry Green family for a box of girls stories and marks its May 1 1922 opening with a tag sale. New shelves include Wallflowers Bailey Behind That Curtain Biggers Haywire Bowers Swift Water Loring Angel In The House Norris French Twins Perkins.
Avery Hollaway, a former resident, moved his family into a residence in Wymore without permission. He walked 15 miles to Beatrice, pleaded guilty to trespassing, and was fined $5 plus $14.75 costs, unpaid, and remanded to jail for five days. He faced no allowance for the long trek.
