Lincoln man J W Price had attempted to file a homestead on Walt Nutters land south of Endicott. Nutter found the title valid and Price had no homestead rights despite records. The land had been granted to S J Joseph and Denver railway on March 28 1870 with a patent issued in April that year. Nutter holds clear title through the railroad company.
A musical cantata titled The Conquering King will be performed by the choir from the Presbyterian church of Fairbury at the Diller church on Sabbath evening. Admission is free with a free will offering collected at the end. The event begins at 8 pm and invites all lovers of sacred music.
School column notes sickness absences of Beulah Beil and Maurice Hill in the grammar room. Senior and junior classes debate unions with a pro affirmative vote. High School Literary Club held its last session. Steele City game results: H. S. Ball defeated Steele City 16 to 12 with mixed errors. Milligan struck out eleven for Diller. Endicott game: Diller 6, Endicott 4. Grimes twisters dominated, crowd observed.
Blue Springs mayor D. K. Calkins and his son Lee with family visited Sunday and Monday, staying on the Clark farm west of town. Carl Gale of Beatrice attended the Diller Telephone Co. annual meeting Monday in which he is financially interested and returned home Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs Joe Weaver of the Elue neighborhood spent Sunday with his brother Henry Weaver who recently moved onto Capt Andrews land west of Diller.
Wes Pickens, a county representative, files as Democratic candidate for state senator from Jefferson and Thayer counties. Senator Ketchan will not run for re election.
The Business Mens' Club will convene Friday evening the 22nd in the office of J. W. Fouts to attend urgent local business. Afrenhmente. Taos P Price, President. Frank T. Pearce, Secretary.
Notice requests all whom are indebted to Hale & Wright to settle at Farmers' Grain office after selling their interest. Henry Asendorf adds half the north wall to a new cement block barn by Mart Carmichael, and he with Christ Kielemeier plan a lean-to to fill the block gap to the blacksmith shop. The writer praises Diller as a thriving town.
The Fairbury Presbyterian Church schedules Sabbath April 24 events starting 10 am with Sabbath school 11 am service and 7 pm Endeavor. At 8 pm the choir will perform The Conquering King cantata with free admission and offerings collected at the close.
